Ok I'll have a stab. The book is banned in many US schools but is a part of the curriculum in others.

Great film by the way!

Was it that she actually wrote it when he was 15 in school. This book was banned in a lot of schools in the USA becaue of the gang, smoking, violence stuff yet today I believe it is on the curriculum in the USA

OK seems a clue is required,

As I start so do I finish

I have no idea on this one. As for the cryptic clue a day starts as it finishes. In terms of time and the amount of light / darkness.

Im not sure if thats what your driving at with the clue.

OK I will give you the answer, it surprised me when I heard it. I have since looked for other books with that start and end in the same way but I have not found any.

The book starts and ends with the same sentence

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home."

Go on a quick and easy starter...

The cold weather last weekend prompted the expression (one of my favourites); "brass monkeys out there."

What is a brass monkey?
Why do they loose their balls in freezing conditions?

I know - I know!!

The racks that cannon balls where originally made of where brass and resembled monkeys arms, when the weather was cold the impurities in the brass caused them to fail and break, thus the balls fell off

A variation but close enough to have it RSM.

As I understand it the monkey was a brass ring which traditionally was used to stack cannon balls into in a pyramid type of stack, making them easily accessed in battle. The rate of shrinkage between iron and brass was sufficiently great the lower stack of balls would burst over the ring and would need chasing around the place to catch them...! hence freezing the balls off a brass monkey!

Over to you.
