Yellow light on for a sec

Hi all,

on my way to work, a yellow light turned on for a split second as I was climbing up a hill in 3rd gear and engine was in full load (though only at 3k RPM but foot down). I couldn't really see what the sign was as it only stayed on for a split second (thought it might have been a spanner??), but it scared me. It appeared on the center screen on the bottom right, right above the digital speed reading. I was in manual mode (on my 4.2 GT auto)

Any idea what it could be? It never did it before.

Also, while I am at it - I was wondering whether the car needed regular oil changes between the 12k miles / 2 year regular service schedules? 12k miles feels like an awfully long time interval for a high performance engine... thoughts?

Thanks
paul

Might have been the traction control / MSP light. I'd not worry too much. I can't actually recall the layout of the display, though, it's bee so long since I sat in mine (sob)

Oil changes. Well, if you like. Personally I'm inclined to trust Maserati. My engine has done something like 76k, serviced on the nose of 12k. No observed problems with the engine. (again, if I remember correctly) ;)

Bottom left is ESC light. Will flash on and off as it intervenes.

Drive it in SPORT mode and it allows more oversteer but will still cut in. Don't try donuts with any of it on as it will cut in and you will look like me trying to do them at a meet. For Donuts you need full MSP off and a heavy boot!

yes i tried a sideways exit from a junction it all started well till the traction cut in and cut the power dead . You just end up at a stand still sideways in the road looking stupid lol .

The QP was the worst for it. in SPORT mode it let the back end come out ever so slightly but as soon as you started to wind the opposite lock in it just cut the power dead! With MSP off totally it was a completely different thing. Pirouetting it and bouncing it off the limiter with no problems, handled well for a 2 tonne barge.

I wonder if the new owner is reading that

Nigel might pop in from time to time. To be fair on the test drive he got a preview of my driving so yes he knew how the car had been driven. :D

These Masers love to be driven hard and are all the better for it!

Surely bottom left of the tacho is ESP *OFF* (at about 6:30) ESP being the on above.

Of course, with the LCD it could be any symbol that came up.

Indeed if it was off and off through an error or say through human intervention. The light I meant was the Yellow one to the left of the Trident which WILL flicker on and off when ESP intervenes.

Just got back to my computer to see all the comments.. thanks and LOL for some of those !!

The light came on the LCD screen (#3 on the picture posted) - right above the mph[A] reading... I don't think it was ESP as the traction was good (straight line) and the wheels weren't spinning... Could it be that it was a yellow spanner?

I will look in the handbook tonight and see what it corresponds too.

This is my first Italian (historically a 911 guy) and I am being paranoid and listening to every single noise possible... the funny part is that I have a warranty on the car. LOL

That is the service due symbol - I've had that up on mine over the last week before taking it in. The other thing that I've had there once or twice is a picture of a shock absorber, mainly when accelerating on a bumpy road in sport. It goes out again and nothing seems to be wrong; probably an overactive sensor.
