Windscreen steaming on GT-S when chill a/c not on :(

Help!! Ever since the weather turned that little bit colder - and more often than not when the missus is in the car :)hammer1: ) - I've tried having the a/c on without the frost/icicle symbol, yet everytime I select this, regardless of whether it's just me, or me and the other half, the windscreen slowly starts to steam up, and within a couple of minutes I'll need to select the demist button for the windscreen. :firing9:

Can anybody help me as to why this is? It's not as if I'm setting the temperature to 30c or something ridiculous like that, normally the temp is between 20 and 22c, but I tried it at 19c the other day, and even then it steamed up. This is clearly ridiculous as the heating will be needed in the winter, but I can't use it without the windscreen steaming up.

Anyone else have this problem, or possibly help me out with a solution for it?

Thanks!

Hello

You might need a new pollen filter. I am sure there will be more informative maserati owners on here to help you. I know that alfas can suffer condensation on windows due to needing a replacement pollen filter. They should get changed around every 12 months on many Alfa Romeo models, Maserati's may be the same.

Hi, there

The problem is quite common on all cars but easily fixed, when the Air con is switched on moisture in the air stream condenses on evaporator & the resultant water collects in a drip tray. This drip tray has a discharge pipe that allows the water to drain out under the car. If this becomes blocked, the water cannot drain. With the Aircon off this water gets sucked into the airstream causing the steaming up you describe.
Fix is to not just change pollen filter, but to clear any blockages/ sediment in the filter compartment.
Hope this explanation helps

Sounds just about spot on Dave, induced condensation from a water source, the filter itself could even be wet.

I'm not very technical but my understanding is that if the a/c is working as it should on a car then there's no way your car can steam up.......I'd be examining that first......lack of gas....item mentioned above etc etc

Not so Wattie, both my GS and GTS did/do it. Both had ice cold air in summer.

The blocked aircon drain on the 3200/4220/GS was a well know issue, I suspect Gixer is on the right track.

Think we're both suggesting the same things...a/c not working IN SOME WAY as it should...ie the blocked pipe.

Cheers wattie

Thanks for your response guys. Maserati are coming to collect the car on Tuesday to deal with the replacement of the troublesome iPod connection - as previously posted on here, and as the car is still well within it's manufacturers warranty, this is something I shall be raising with them.

I thought that maybe I was doing something wrong, but evidently not.

Just a final thought, make sure you havnt accidentally pressed the recirc button!! This will prevent fresh air coming into the car..u never know :) cheers
Dave.
