..................isn't a great shame guys...that we have to take such precautions.............trust no-one to do anything, whether big or small .....easy or complicated....I find it dispiriting and down heartening really.

Too true P, but prudent nonetheless.

...totally agree........so you hand over your dosh ...a huge amount of it, for "professionals" to treat your expensive car as if they really could not care about doing a job to the absolute minimum standard.......

Why?

I have had the national windscreen call and say that the windscreen has arrived from maserati.
They want to fit it on monday and need to let the cars seals and adhesives "cure " for the entire day.
this makes sense to me as there is a lot of vibration through the spyder windscreen.
I also will be taking some very very detailed images of the cars screen surround, bonnet, wings,in fact just about all of it as i expect the fitter to be some rocker headbanger wearing a bullet belt or similar abrasive clothing item.LOL
I also find it hard to trust people with these cars and cannot (with it being up for sale) afford to have it ruined by some careless inconsideration.
I am also removing the Vreidestein Ultrac sessanta and putting back on the Pirelli P Zero Rosso as i felt these were the far better tyre for grip and feel(but each to there own i guess)
As a consideration Emblem quoted me £1407 + Vat to supply and fit and maserati modena quoted £1070 + Vat Fitted.
Both parties outsource.......
So whats going on there then and where is my incentive to use an Indy?
(just asking so dont get all arsey any emblem fans out there)

About 6 months ago I watched a Autoglass guy remove a windscreen from a Toyota Landcruiser Amazon (not a cheap vehicle). This was done at the roadside in front of the owners house. After removing the windscreen wipers he carefully placed them on the tarmac infront of the car. He seemed to have some problems getting the rubber gasket/seal from the window as he was swinging about on it for quite a while trying to pull it off. The main dealer who supplied my car told me that they only use a known specialist(ie a certain person by name not some anonymous under the umberalla of a national company) to change the windscreens due to problems with the later.

What could go wrong? The screen is fitted out of alignment and needs redoing, they scratch your bodywork or they don't seal it properly and you end up with a water leak causing all sorts of problems/stains. About 1 year ago there was a thread on PH in the FMLB forum, a small company specialist was mentioned who does all the high end stuff, maybe worth sourcing.

I expect they'll outsource to somebody who spends all their days swapping windscreens and gets rather proficient at it rather than doing one themselves every six months or so.

Just returned from haveing the replacement done. So here are some facts arrived at 0800hrs - 1100hrs left Autoglass all completed. Inspection prior and after all logged down - no issues.

Asked the fitter had he done this model before "Yes" that is why he was assigned to meet at the branch. Checked glass - Part Number on it as per Europarts No so suggest correct glass. All bagged up and sticky labels stateing "Maserati" so satisfied genuine part.

So far so good - job completed - now the bill - paid my £50 excess - that was it job done. I asked about the bill to my insurance company - how much - ready for it £785 all in!!!!!!!!.

When I contacted Eurospares they told me I think £725 + postage to my home - again not a bad price.

I asked if this branch would take delivery of a glass not supplied by them and fitt it - yes was the reply - you supply the glass - fitting cost £180 - not bad.

So providing everything settles down and no issues with the rain etc I am happy - + lifetime of ownership against defetcts in fitting.and workmanship waranty!!

One other point - I assume this is correct - I was told that sometimes when the mirror drops it is because in the past the incorrect glue was used? If it falls off sometimes people glue it back up with 2 part glues. I was told this can have a chemical reaction on the glass once respositioned. In turn this can weaken the point of contact at the top of the screen and create a weak point - hence a crack from the top of the screen? I am not a chemist or expert anyone else heard of this.

So happy at this time - peterC

Well, hats off ot Autoglass for doing a great job.

I also had it done at the branch, think the specialist is the only way, no way you should be fobbed off with their mobile service.

Interesting about the mirror, never heard that before, glad it all sorted now.

Good to hear you've both got your windscreens sorted without any issue. Happy motoring! :D
