Whilst I am all for people modding their cars, do it properly and do not mess with the boomers.

At 100k not a chance mate , where have you been????
Estimated 100k as clocks changed. So £10k for a written off, 100k+, probably shoestring budget, end floaty manual. I think he has been talking to Mr Reefer for advise on price. I wonder what they would swap with.

I've seen a lot worse, but 10k for a 3200 with a 100k on the clock.

End float!
Bit rude. So come on, what do you think?
Wasn't meant to be rude , what do I think? I think associating end float with a decent mileage on the clock is unfounded and just going to result in another 3200 bashing thread....or maybe I misinterpreted the meaning of your post?
You guys need to realise if folk are in the market for buying a Maserati this is probably one of the first places they will visit for a bit of research, is this one a good car? I don't know , maybe it is , maybe it isn't , but if I was the seller I would be pretty annoyed, buyers reading the opinions of "experts" that have no first hand knowledge of what's on offer. Honestly we don't help ourselves sometimes...

Pardon my 3200 GT ignorance but what was the end float issue?
What is an end float? Only floats I know are in a carby and surely these were fuel injected by 2000.
Please explain.

Fore to aft movement of the crank. There are thrust washers, which have been known to wear around 30k mile mark. If left to become an issue you are looking at low oil pressure and associated engine damage. Not all cars were effected, and it is debated if a faulty batch of thrust washers or something along those lines were to blame. Concensus if it hasn't happened by now, and greater mileages then it should be OK. Always a risk which puts many people off. Manuals appear to be effected more, but autos are not immune. Just have float measured annually when serviced.

I cannot recall the reason why it happens a thrust bearing issue I think, but it is movement in the crank. On old vw's I grew up with you could pull/push the pulley and it would move. Too much and I it destroys everything. No idea why the manual 3200 suffers more though tbh.

So float means lateral movement, got it. Thanks.
