Nope.....Would rather cut my willy off with a rusty bread knife than watch boxing. But if you did hope you enjoyed.

Mayweather never been an early round boxer, the fight followed a similar theme; Macgregor completely gassed after three rounds and Floyd picked him off.

A few things to note:

Mayweather's timing was poor, he looked old and slow and looked like he'd been out of the ring for longer than two years.

Connor gave a good account of himself but his technique was poor and against a current welterweight would have barely got past the first round.

Ultimately more an exhibition bout than a boxing fight.

Many years ago in my late teens was invited to a black tie boxing evening with my Dad.
I was sat next to the ring when two kids, yes kids must have been 14, starting boxing in the ring.
One received a heavy blow that split his face and my white shirt got splattered in red blood.
I think you can assume my stance on boxing!

The fight was a great example of the power of marketing. All the experts predicted a Mayweather win.

Mayweather drew it out so people got a bit if value for their money.

Fixed, great acting from both to take another $100 million. Just another example of a Sport where money talks ******** walks....

I still find it strange that people do stuff like this clearly for money only & expect to be taken seriously. Seems like a lot of cash to pay out for a short amount of 'entertainment'! Who pays to watch this stuff?

Wow...they have more money than me or appreciate the entertainment more than I do! I can't say I had a desire to watch it even if it were free.

Apparently 1 billion audience worldwide and many millions in the USA alone paid 70 pounds plus and 20 pounds in U.K.
It was entirely predictable in the end. I think most people watched hoping for a surprise- and wanted mcgregor to beat him. But it was always for money and always going to last a few rounds until mcgregor ran out of steam.
I personally like watching top level fighting, but this was a missmatch and sad for both sports.
I understand people who are anti combat sports- it wouldn't be top of my list for my family to go into.
Regarding them doing it for money- do most people go and sit in the office and phone around all day for the good of their health, or to pay the bills. At least these guys are good at what they do. Just saying ..

A 7th of the population of the planet watched it? I suspect that's a massive over exaggeration of the actual numbers.

It not the ones that make it that the combat sports are bad for. It's all the ones that don't. Those that end up damaged because of it and don't get the rewards. Just my twopenn'th.

That's true- there is a lot of low level stuff that's frankly worrying. RE- viewing figures- was just relaying what news outlets were saying - but agreed v difficult to be sure. It's a massively popular sport and will have drawn in a lot of other interested parties.

It's really sad that people go to watch MMA or UFC. Boxing used to be quite poor with the safety of its fighters but now the medical requirements and controls of the sport have reduced fatalities. You're not going to eradicate death or permanent injuries but at least they've recognised the dangers and are doing something right to reduce it. MMA on the otherhand is a chav blood sports. OK so the fighters have learnt various martial arts but where's the entertainment in watching one man beat the living sh!t out of another who cannot defend himself. If you find that 'fun' have a word with yourself.

UFC is quite scary medically speaking. It's unbelievable the battering they take from very powerful individuals. The threshold for stopping the fight is often jaw dropping.
I am amazed there haven't been more fatalities/ serious injuries. It will be interesting to see the long term figures. As Mick says - the low level stuff must be especially problematic in UFC. At least there are rules in boxing. I can't imagine what a Friday night cage fight in A poor suburb of London is like, with an untrained ref

Not a great deal of difference to bare knuckle fighting in the same deprived areas. "Win or lose on the booze" was a way of life in the old East End. Those involved looked forward to a decent scrap and a drink together afterwards. Sorry to say it but some people just like fighting. I'd be more worried about the inner city gang culture nowadays than amatuer boxing/mma. As for the inherent dangers - the participants step into the arena knowing the potential dangers. Exactly the same as any contact sport be it rugby, American Football, ice hockey, etc. All of which draw huge audiences despite the known risks. Rightly or wrongly spectators enjoy the "big hit" or the knock out punch as part of the sport.
