Where to get an ADG car inspected?

Though it makes the inspection a bit more of a choreas he can only carry out any subsequent remedial work as he is instructed (and paid to do) by the vendor, in this case his neighbour. If this assumption is correct, it speaks volumes of both parties (but in very differing ways).

As for the clutch, without dwelling on the detail, it's very easy to manipulate should you wish, so be very wary of pre-existing recent clutch reports. Either get one taken by the vendor as you watch, or better still if your chosen inspector is SD equipped, then get another taken independently. This reading can then be checked against the paperwork, receipts, recorded mileages to arrive at a likely level of wear.

On this point, does anyone know if the new clutch / first setting of PIS is date tagged within the SD software?

,
I have to applaude Matthews stance. It seems that he wants to distance himself from the inspection,

Definately a positive step forward ,taken a while, i think its called being ethical , extremely good idea when in business and thinking long term

When I bought my Maser, I had it inspected by the nearest Maserati main dealer, in my case Greypaul Birmingham. It cost £360 but the report was extensive, even down to a windscreen washer jet being out of alignment! They took the wheels off, reported on all the disc and pad thicknesses giving present and new thicknesses, test drove it, as well as the usual clutch wear %. In my case the only points of issue turned out to be a worn track rod end and leaking cam cover gasket, which the garage I was buying from replaced, however following replacement they really could not find any wear in the track rod end, or where the gasket was leaking. The main dealers have very high standards, and the reports are super critical to meet the requirements of Maserati. I spoke to the service manager following the report, and even a 'stain' on a gasket, is enough to warrant a report! So in my case, I was happy to pay the £360, which was 3 hours at £120 per hour!
Cheers
Mike

Did wonder if Maserati dealers did this.....Surely the safest place to go as they want your trade after you have bought the car....

I don't think Gialo has the facility to check clutch wear although I may be wrong. I would 100% get the car independently checked not because it is ADG but because for the sake of a few hundred quid it can save you thousands later. The only exception to the rule for me would be if I were to buy from a main dealer.

Giallo does have SD2/3 so by that he will be able to check clutch wear. Setting it up is a different piece of kit, and am sure he has this too. Mathew is very much into having the right tech.

Totally agree with you Matt , Mathew has a good setup and is well positioned/qualified to carry out all work necessary to maintain Maserati standards, that has never been in question, its one or two of the wallies that have worked there in the past that caused issues , Im really glad that as Miles quoted he is distancing himself from inspecting ADG cars, much more ethical and proffesional stance , absolutely removes any conflict of interests , hopefully we'll continue to hear good things from now on

I've always heard good things about Mathew and may it continue.....Good specialists are far and few between for the marque...

I'm a bit late to this thread but just to back up the recent posts:
I contacted Giallo to ask them to carry out a PPI on an ADG car. I was immediately told that they didn't want to do it because of a potential conflict of interests and they suggested that I use someone completely independent.

It was a very reassuring thing to hear and when I finally got the car I was a little more confident in the routine service work they had carried out on the car.

In the end I used Steve Lee (as mentioned by Simonc in a previous post).

I had originally thought to use Bill McGrath but the planning and logistics of getting the car from ADG to the Bill McGrath workshop whilst I was many miles away would have been too much of a headache.

Steve Lee was able to go to the car and although I think an inspection on location isn't quite the same as having the car in a workshop it was, in the end, the best option for me.

Just spoke to Matthew who recommended an independent inspection elsewhere, he was very up front about it.

He suggested a chap called Steve Lee from http://www.alternative-vehicle-inspections.co.uk/ who has seen plenty of maseratis, and was happy for him to inspect the car at Giallo

Don't know if it helps - but when I went to test drive a GS at ADG last month Giallo weren't even mentioned - Steve Lee was their recommendation. They also said I could have anybody else inspect it if I wanted - the only condition being that they'd have to do it at ADG, there was no way the car would be taken to the inspector (McGrath's would have been my choice)

The GS I looked at was stunning from the outside (like you lot need to be told that :D) but I felt the prep on the inside really let it down - the leather on the seats was badly worn, all the leather looked grubby and there were some dodgy stains on the roof :) Bill seemed like a nice chap and I was able to look at all the paperwork for the car, and mooch about inside and out with no pressure.

In the end I didn't buy, but the car's probably in Australia now as the other person who was interested in it was from there.

The red GS with red carpets was in far better condition inside, and looked really nice too, but I didn't really want a red one!

I really like the red one they have with the red carpets....Under 30k now and would imagine a better deal could be done....What one did you look at barneyg..?..Oh, and a big welcome to the forum...You still looking for a GS...?....

Thanks for the welcome - been lurking for a while :)

I looked at the black one (RX07 BXK), had the two-tone black/avorio interior which looked good in the photos - I know avorio can be a pain though. Had a few questionable bits in the history but looked and drove well and the clutch was only a year old. Price was a bit high though, especially as it had last sold the year before for around the same price (with 6,000 fewer miles).

I've always loved the car since I first saw a 3200 in car magazine in about '99 - but in the end I've decided not to go the GS route as I'd really like something a bit newer - and typically in the months since I started looking at them the prices seem to have gone up not down!

I'll still lurk around though...Dad keeps saying about getting a classic car so maybe I'll push him towards a Maserati :D

Prices do seem to have stabilized onthe GS front.......Ah the black one with the black tech cloth..That looked really nice and loved the interior....Remember when it was for sale privately 6 months or so before...Wanted it then also......Sounds like it was not perfect though...
