Wheel Spacers

Even if you add theblots thats got to be far more cheaper than the FD ones......

That's probably true, but I would just add a note of caution in that the bolts need to be correct for the car. The chamfer needs to be correct as does the length (standard length + width of spacer)

Yep that is wise words Miles...........My friend bought some for his car and they supplied bolts which was suppose to fit the car but didn't...

Right, I've gone ahead and ordered a set of FD's from Noor as he did a bit of a deal (still mega money for 4 bits of thin metal though!) so hopefully they'll be at delivered for when I get back home tonight.

I've gone for 25mm on the back as I reckon the car needs that. On the front I've also gone for the maximum 22mm and I'll see how that looks...as long as the wheel doesn't extend outside from the bottom of the bodywork (therefore still a little tucked in at the top) then it should be OK. I'd prefer the wider ones as they bolt into the hub and I can use the original bolts to bolt the wheel to the spacer.

If they're too wide at the front then Noor will swap them for narrower ones (probably 15mm) with longer bolts.

I'll post some before/after pics once I've fitted them later this week.

Look forward to seeing the pics...Should make the car look really purposeful...Make sure you take some before and after as that would be good to see if possible....

Okey dokie....I got the spacers this afternoon and no sooner had I signed for them was the car up on jacks!

I started with the front as that was the one I was most concerned about as 22mm is quite a big increase which I feared would be too much. And unfortunately my fears were right...I'm sure a lot of you might like the results as shown in the pics below because the wheel did sit perfectly flush with the top of the wheelarch. The problem is, the GT has quite a curved side profile meaning that anything below 1/3 of the way down the wheels stuck out too much for my liking. Looking at what 22mm did, I reckon the front needs nothing more than 5-7mm at the most.

I then started on the back and given the massive difference the 22mm made on the front, I didn't even bother trying the 25mm spacers that I'd bought for the back....I tried the 22mm to see what they looked like first. And then for the second disappointment of the day I felt that these also looked to wide. Again, the wheel is pretty much flush with the top of the wheelarch giving the look many people would be trying to achieve, for but for me it's just too wide a stance further down the wheel. I reckon the rear would be just fine with nothing more than a 10mm spacer.

In all, I think the look that these gave were a bit too much 'modified' which isn't what I was looking for and in this case, I feel that (for me at least), less is more!

I have got to add though that these spacers were incredibly well made - the fit onto the hub was perfect and tight.

So, what now?

Well, I've got to say Noor was fantastic because when I called him to tell him I wasn't happy (and feeling rather embarrassed) he was great and had no problem offering a refund.

What we've agreed is that I'm going to have the MC suspension fitted and if after thats done I'm still unhappy with the stance, he'll be able to get some custom spacers fabricated for me to the the much narrower sizes that I think would suffice.

So there we have it....for me this wasn't the right look but for everyone else, here's some pictures to make you own mind up (oh, try and ignore the height of the car as it's obviously not settled after being jacked up...but this only means that when it does settle, the effect of the width would be even greater):

Sorry to hear that Andrew, but good that Noor's looked after you. Definitely worth having another look once it's on it's new suspension, but I do suspect 15mm all round will be about right.

Really nice to meet you both today by the way.

Cheers, Miles.

Yes, totally intend to but I reckon even 15mm will be too much for me....I reckon 10mm will do what I need it to.

I'll be booking the car in to get that suspension fitted in the next couple of weeks so I'll see how I feel about it after thats done.

Yes, good to meet you too and thanks again for letting me know about the day.

Think thats the answer...Always felt that the GT had too much gap under the arches...Onceyou've done that you may find the spacers make more sense....I think the pics of the spacers fitting just makes that gap look even worse so your new suspension will sort that out.

Andy, I think that's because the wheels haven't settled after taking the jack out. The spacers wont do much to change the gap over the tyre but it can give that illusion as the tyre comes closer to the arch. IMO, I think they look Ok as I like wheels that come flush with the arch as I think it gives the car a better stance. Each to their own I guess.

Just don't forget to get a geo check/reset done when you add spacers - everything changes!

Having spacers fitted to my DB9 for much the same reason - think probably 10-15mm, no more. Once the geo is set, the wider track helps the cars stability I think.
