2002 4200 GT, 29K with 11K of that coming within the last 12 months. I'm expecting to keep the mileage up at 10-12K per year.

The resale value's so poor on early 4200's, especially manuals it seems, that I might as well run up the mileage.

these cars i now believe they were made to be driven, the more i drive the less problems i have, whereas before id leave it in garage and bring it out 2 or 3 times a month then it was full of b*******

I couldn't agree more, the old boy was not entirely impressed with a 1,200 mile journey the day I bought him. I guess having only done 500 miles in the previous 12 months came as a bit of a shock.

Since then I've felt the engine loosen up, the clutch is lighter and more controlled and the whole car feels more taught, more planted. Sure, the car will eventually have high miles and not much face value but by then I'll have got my money back many times over and I won't care.

My 3200 is the same; the only time I get issues is when it hasn't been driven for a while. Usually it's just lttle problems like the brakes sticking or small electrical gremlins like the passenger sit refusing to motor when the back rest is lent forwards. They are normally simple fixes/resets so in a way it gives the car more character but I try to make sure I use the car every couple of days.

I'm pleased you guys can enjoy your cars year round. I live in the back of beyond and the roads become undriveable for the 3200 over the winter so it has to hibernate.

I've only had mine since October but I found that not using it over the winter did the car more harm than good. As you say Dem if it's left for 3 weeks without moving it doesn't like it - my brakes in particular start sticking even if the handbrake is left off.

The only harm I think you can do in using it over the winter is if you use it when the roads have been gritted as the underside of the car lands up coated in salt which is asking for trouble. Last winter once the roads were being gritted I only took mine out a couple times on short journeys and before putting it back in the garage I washed the underside of the car. Also, if the car gets wet I always dry it before putting it back in the garage. Yes, my wife thinks I'm mad!

I agree with Steve, 6 months off the road has done no harm - if your garage is dry. In fact it gives you the time to do some serious preventative maintenance and address all those niggles and nice to fix issues. I just fire it up once a month and move it up and down the drive a few times. It hen goes to Emblem in the Spring and it's all smiles for the Summer.

Any V8 engined car DOES NOT like to be laid up for any length of tme, sludge forms in the oil galleries.... brakes get sticky very quickly. If you dont want to use your masser in winter, at least fire her up every week, and leave her to warm up thoroughly (10-15 mins at idle at least)

2006 GS with 30k on the clock. Had it 18 months now and have done only 7k in that time, 3k of that on foreign trips to France (Le Mans twice). I only use it maybe 1 or 2 days per week for work one day and usually a local blat at the weekend.
