What's the best Maserati for everyday use?

My everyday workhorse is a BMW... but life's too short... I've been toying with the idea of running a modern Maser as my daily driver, and I'm weighing it against the cost of fuel, servicing, reliability, depreciation.

My idea is to get a 2/3 year old, low mileage Granturismo S or Quattroporte S/GTS; given current depreciation levels, I could get one of these for the price of a loaded BMW 5-series.

I've driven the Granturismo S MC-Shift and Automatica extensively (several thousand miles), and I love them both. The Automatica is probably the most sensible choice as a daily driver but it's a bit underpowered (very tall gearing doesn't help). My ideal would be an "S" MC-Shift with DMS or FD upgrades to get as much horsepower as possible, but then I'm worrying about massive fuel bills, clutch life and service bills...

It's not an easy choice. Maybe it's not even a good idea to have a Maserati as a daily driver. Any feedback would be welcome!

(PS - I drive 15'000 miles per year, about 40% highway, 55% B-roads, 5% city).

Personally, I prefer not to drive the Maserati daily, it makes the magic and sense of occasion oh so much more sweet when I do drive it on a sunny weekend (whenever that will happen again :()

Had my QP sport GT for over 6 years from new and used as an every day car and was brilliant for that, so easy to drive for a big car, apart from tyres the maintenance bill was very small.

Plenty use them as daily drivers, plenty use them as weekend treats - there is no right answer; you must do whatever suits you and your wallet.

As you say, life is too short, if you want a Maserati in your life, and you have the funds to do it, then you should do it.

Was that a QP with the ZF Auto or with the F1? I have the ferling that the ZF Autos would be the sensible Masers that you could use without worries. I know I am always worried about having to manoeuvre my GS on an incline, or getting stuck in a jam... You always worry for the clutch. No such issues with the zf, but less fun?

I used my 3200 everyday and it was fine......Could not see the point of owning it an not using it............I would say GT or QP is best everyday Maserati......Newer the better.

If I had the opportunity to drive my Maserati everyday, I would not hesitate!
But doing 30k miles a year for business, I get a company car.
That does make driving the Maserati special, but you never really, really, get to know it.
Silly things like using the sat nav/radio, you forget how to use it!

Mine would be more of a daily driver if I drove daily. Bigbob on here uses his auto daily (snow permitting), I think.

Go for it, I say. Life's too short.

Oh, and get the MC. It's a thing of joy.
