I guess its the spyder, but is there a preferred option that people prefer to go for?

I've never been so pedantic when buying a car but last year I lost 20k on a Ferrari 575 which was a total balls up. I am poor at keeping my cars for long!

Trying to make sure I get the right one!

Willt, I got my spyder at the end of September last year and since then I have done 4000 miles and I love it. I got an 03 4200CC with the updates; the glass back window, stiffer monocoque and updated software etc. Either version of the spyder is a fantastic car and with straight through tail pipes and sports cats you get its full aural spectrum at full volume. Whereas in a coupe (still an awesome car) with the same spec you know the sound is there but everyone else gets to hear more of it than you do! I tend to have the roof down unless the storm outside has a name and do tend to get funny looks when it's -12! Rest assured, you are certain to enjoy a 4200 whatever you get but make sure you get it thoroughly checked over before you part with your money. Get one and enjoy!

I had a 4200 GT and thought it was marvellous - I loved the interactiveness of changing gear and the control of a clutch pedal. It's an old school, long throw gear change, you feel like you're in a classic Italian supercar! However, those who have well set-up CCs swear by them. I have done one track lap (slowly, honest Peter!) in Safrane's CC and even in that time I was impressed...

Spyder... If I'd bought one 3yrs ago, it'd probably be the only car I would ever need. 3yrs ago I couldn't afford one though, now they really are amazing value. As mentioned above, a late 03 car at least is required for the updates and a superior drive over the early cars. However, guys with early cars still love them! They are renowned for not having a stiff chassis, but I've heard that if you drive the car to it's capabilities, just like any sporty car, you learn to get the best out of it.

CC is just brilliant on track....and road....But on track if comes into its own......I love manuals but would have a CC every time over one..Once you learn how to drive one you believe all cars should have one.

I've only driven the CC but I have to say it stays in auto till its warmed up (usually about 8 miles or so) when the gear changes become much smoother and quicker, then its into sports mode and then into manual... Even this tends to be when I'm in a playful mood or have a point to demonstrate to a scooby etc. MSP has only ever come off when playing snow drifts and painting pitch markers in rubber for the stalls in the market place!

I'm comming up for 4,000 miles of ownership and am just starting to get a feel for the cars capabilities; I know they are well beyond my own at the moment! Hopefully a few track events over the summer will rectify this and dramatically improve my skills.

The CC in auto is really a lazy man's option but ideal if you are in moderate traffic & I try to avoid heavy traffic as I sit there thinking only of the poor old clutch..... and doggedly dropping it into neutral even before it has stopped rolling!

See, I will say I never liked the auto in the ones I've driven..Always drove in CC..Perhaps never gave it a chance.
