Not sure what's on the menu tonight. Mrs C has professed a desire for Espresso Martini a la Martini Bar in Cancun. I shall not be partaking of my Cancun staple, Mojito. Just seems wrong.

There shall be some jolly fine wine though, I hope and a fresh bottle of Winter's Gold for our return (unless we feel like a dram of the really good stuff) on special at Tesco (thanks to whoever pointed that out)

Have fun, all

C
Moi. Same here later.

This was bloody good. So much so that we bought a bottle to take home (50% off) to drink with their takeaway lasagne next week!)

It's a bloody good buy at that price. Not so much at £40.

Mrs C has decided she's probably had enough (the espresso martini was substantial)

I think I'll have one of these:

Total respect to you for that. Very generous.
what’s it like. I never used to like whisky but I’m developing a taste.

Bloody fine (as it should be at that price) Smoky and peaty. A bit like Lagavullin dialled down. Given I like Lagavullin dialled up this is a complement. Highly complex. Probably not where I'd start, though.

Ok. So I’m a Total newbie. I’ve JD for mixing, Jim Beam, winters gold , 20 yr old glenmorangie and a couple of others. Where
Should I be heading?

Some of it depends on what price level you're willing to waste. This is how we did it at college.

20 yo Glenmorangie is pretty good. Winter's gold I like a lot. I'd head east cost. Dalwihnie or Balvenie should be good to start with not too much pain if you really don't like.

I like the winters gold. Too much. I’ll try a few more and report back. Luckily as a Yorkshire man even if it’s **** I’ll drink it it anyway.

Given you like the Winter's Gold, the 'normal' Dalwhinnie would be a good place to start ;)

Not tried many English ones

I really like the ones from St George's distillery (English whisky Co.)

I live about 45mins away, so have been for the tour there a few times over the years, and first went when it first opened 2007/8.

I remember it caused a bit of a stir at the time as even their 3yr old whisky was getting better reviews than a lot of the older scotches.

I really liked their chapter 6 for easy drinking and chapter 9 when I wanted a bonfire lol

I hadn't bought a bottle for a couple of years and my wife bought me the above bottle for me recently (about £40). I see on the website that they do this one and a smokey one now and not the 'chapter' ones.

I'm now kicking myself as I've been emptying the chapter 6 and 9 bottles I had, thinking I could easily get more @£40-50, but they must have discontinued it and they are now on sale at 5x the price!! Maybe I should have held onto a few.
Me and my mate said about 10 years ago, we should buy lots of them or a barrel as an investment..... Wish I had now!

Also, if yourself or your missus likes a baileys type of drink, I can highly recommend their Norfolk Nog!
