NO/ASR staying on, but not a problem, seems to work?! ABS warning lights come on sometimes, and the RCY light. exactly at that moment, if in top, the car changes down to 2nd... then remains in 2nd, never changing up or down... so like it's stuck in gear... then sometime down the road, it goes back to normal, the lights go out and the gearbox starts working OK again... any ideas anyone? My normal line of help is on holiday and I need the car sorting ASAP!

ABS unit change is ££££ and is supposed to come complete with the ECU. I am on my third one.............
Wheel sensor for ABS are not horror show in price or fitting.
Gear box ECU - no idea, sorry.

### Get a diagnostic done, the sensors can be tested by competent mechanic using an oscilloscope while spinning the wheel (should see a square wave) ###

I had an ABS error being thrown and it was the front toothed wheels that form part of the hub which the ABS sensors read. Only did it around 70mph. You can get second hand ones from the likes of David Askew for around 60 pounds.

Only time I had RCY light come on was when the gearbox oil was low and old. New filter and fluids sorted that.

Your issue does sound more electrical to me though in its random nature.. I would disconnect all wires and give them a good clean with electrical contact cleaner and see how you go..
