Hi,

I'm looking to make a mount for my new plate and think the best way would be using an old broken number plate. I really only need half the plate, so if anyone has anything lying about, please let me know.

Thanks,
R

Buy one online. Next day delivery and have one spare ! Any plates in an SM garage are probably sentimental ? I have my bike plate on the wall and a spare screen and a wheel cover for a Disco 2. Anyone want the wheelcover ? Postage only

If it's just to mount your plate on, an old one from a scrapper would do the job and for pence if they would sell it, some refuse and destroy them due to cloning. have you lost the mount off your car Ross..??

Hi Robert,

The previous owner preferred the no front plate look, and lost the mount after removal. I don't like the screw hole look front plate, so will fashion a mount out of an old number plate.

I can't seem to find any wrap yards, there was a local one but seems to have closed. Also, those listed on yellow pages state that they don't do vehicle parts. What happened to scrap yards?

Does anyone know of any scrap yards near Enfield or Sunbury?

Thanks

Ross,
If you get a piece of flat metal about 8" long and two" tall, or wide, bend the ends in to an "L" shape, drill a hole in to each flat end and mount it. That might not explain it that well, but the bracket stands off the front of the car slightly and only the ends are fastened to the car. Then you use sticky double sided pads to fit the plate. If you are not sure what I mean I will try and photograph mine for you, let me know.
Cheers

That would be cracking, willing to pay poastage. Will PM you.

Robert - thanks. My idea is to use the screwholes that are already present to mount a "scrap" numberplate using screws. Then attach on top of that a numberplate using stickypads.

Ross,
I think they used a stand off mounting plate to stop any wind vibration on the body from the plate, just a thought?

A good point, but I think i'd struggle to source the metal and then get it bent and level. Unless you've any recommendations. Rubber washer between the bodywork and plate I thought would help with any vibrations.

The metal bracket is quite thin and can be bent. You need to find a slice of say thin aluminium and just bend the ends down and out. I would imagine there are loads of bits such things in such as Halfords, or any auto parts shop. It's because the front is curved that I think they use the stand off, otherwise some part of the plate would touch??
