Just been taking some extra time getting Motorway to adjust the spec with the additional options then adjust the reserve accordingly. I think they are geared up to turnover as many easy straight auto sales as possible and as soon as someone needs to do something manually it takes ages for them to deal with. Apparently it needs to go back to the developers to adjust this as the agents have no ability to change this.

Motorway value the car without the options at £22k so that is the standard auto reserve that it will list/sell for as a minimum trade price with no options added or priced in. I think to add the options and increase the minimum reserve £1k to £23k is fair and about right.

So I am happy to sell it privately or to a forum member for £24k including the original set of 20" alloys. Or I could knock a bit off and sell the 20" alloys separately as I am sure I could sell these easily enough for £250. So could do £24k with the 20" alloys or £23,750 without the 20" alloys.

If Motorway don't pull their finger out today and get it listed today or tomorrow I will just pop an ad on Ebay I think for £25995 and see what interest and offers I get. The classified ad on Ebay is only £19.99 with no final fees so worth popping on there to see what it does for 10 days for £19.99.

Has anyone had that on Motorway before to get them to add all the options required then revised the reserve accordingly? Doesn't make too much difference with a few hundred quid's worth of options but when it is thousands it makes a fair difference to the value of a car. I know you never get back anywhere near the RRP price of the options when selling used but it must be reasonable to suggest a certain perccentrage maybe 25%-40% for these.

Anyone know if there is a ballpark figure that people work to for percentage of option cost to allow for used value?
Have you tried Carwow? When I was looking to go that route with my Ghibli their reserve was better than motorway by quite a bit.

Glwts!

Get crisper photos, they look blurry on my screen.
Likely because I have a pretty cheap phone and I'm not buying a better one just to take some better pictures of the car

If someone is worried about some blurry pictures I suspect they might not be the most ideal potential buyer for me. Just gives someone a rough idea before they come down to see it really. I'm not sure professionally perfect photography sells a car like this does it? Certainly doesn't bother me too much or impacts my decision to not go look at or not buy a car.

Yes looked at Carwow and have access to a trade account to search/buy on their platform. Never really got on with it too much myself.

Did you sell the Ghibli with Carwow in the end?

No i didn’t. A car came up on autotrader that had all the options that I wanted. So I asked them to give a price on the Ghibli as a trade in. With a bit of bartering I got pretty much what I would have accepted as a private sale without all the hassle.

Nice work

I don't think the Carwow platform is well regarded in the trade. It was a low rent failing platform I believe they acquired to pivot into that space quickly.

I’m not a big fan of selling cars privately and I’ve maybe lost a good few grand over the years not doing so, but I just can’t be ar53d with the hassle of it all.

I read somewhere that a Carwow trick is to offer high reserves and then quickly are badgering you to lower it if there’s nothing coming forward straight away, which defeats the object of the selling platform. I think at the price yours is set at on EBay it will sell pretty quickly.

I'm not always a fan of the process privately as you get a mixed bag of potential buyers. I have bought and a fair few over the years privately and met also chatted to some really nice people. I'm never afraid to do a little bit of extra work and go through a little bit of pain or discomfort to increase the return a little though. If you can sell somewhere in between trade and retail at the end point then it can work well both ways.

I'm no rush and will see what interested there is over the weekend then will list with Motorway next week if no decent or serious offers come in. I've had plenty of silly low ball offers already I've declined but £24k is my absolute bottom line which I think is a more than fair price.

So I've had quite a few offers this weekend but none have hit my minimum sell price of £24k yet. Two at £23k, one at £22500, one at £22k and one at £21500. So will see what goes this week and if any of these come back with increased offers. It is due to go live with Motorway Tuesday I think so will see what goes there too. Feels like I'm about right with my £24k minimum so far. The one thing that Motorway can be good for is if a dealer has an order for one they need to find so can often pay more as they already have the customer order and not buying for stock.

Well the E43 was on Motorway today and although Motorway have made some errors in the listing it went for over £23k. Just waiting to hear back what the revised figure will be as the errors were not in my favour so expect the dealers have bid slightly less based on some additional prep they won't need to do. So will see what they come back with.

£24k is a great offer. Dealers will be hesitant at nearly 100k miles as their ability to provide a warranty reduces.

Just did a quick search on PH. There are 190,000 cars for sale, of which less than 300 have a mileage of over 99k and an asking price of £25k or above.
At the lower end (£25k-£40k) it’s dominated by LR products (Rangies, Discos and Defenders) and at the higher end ((£50k+) it’s mainly Porsche 911’s.

There’s a one owner Alfa G QF with 125k miles, at £29k. Must be cheapest in the country.

This must be the only time I’ve done a search with a mileage this high being my starter figure. Makes a fun change.
