Harsh crowd as usual. But be fair, this is the cheapest reasonable mileage MC-Shift for sale. It passed its MOT two weeks ago with no advisories (so the brakes and tyres are fine - and perfectly normal for a used car). On the face if it, it's a good buy.

But of course, spend a couple of hundred pounds on an inspection from a local Maserati specialist if you want/need extra peace of mind.

This car, fully checked over and provided with a warranty, from a respected dealer, would be at least £5k more. So, either buy this one at circa £32k and use the war chest as/if required. Or go direct to a dealer and buy a warrantied car at £37k+.

This car has been talked about before do a search on the forum. How cheap or something was the thread.....

You need to check

clutch wear (also drive it to see in MCS mode right at the red line to see if you get any warning lights saying "gear unavailable" on the DIS.) that's a sure fire sign the clutch is borked. Factor in £2.5k for a new one with all the kit.
Variators, as said on the other thread you would need to check the engine number is not one of those affected. Factor in £3k for Variators.
Brakes, a full set on a recent GTS were £3k.
Suspension bushes, drive the car on uneven surface and check it is not fidgety or pulling one way or another. This will indicate bush wear, factor a grand for the fronts and another grand for the rears.

I knew straight away, you ok these days? Not as sharp ? :D

:)

Definitely struggling in honesty. If you consider the industry I work in and some of the news on September the 7th, it may be indicative that the landscape has changed somewhat. Sadly it's not being adapted to terribly well, and BS levels are far *far* too high

What news was that? You aren’t caught up in the Harvey Weinstein / Kevin spacey scandal are you? Remember c- no means no

Yes forgot about that ! The “gear unavailable†when flooring it on red line is a very good indicator of clutch going!

So today was interesting. A quick look turned into 6 hours of inspection, test drives, paperwork scrutiny and calling around dealers who had done previous work. Turns out the car had paperwork for the clutch being done and a good amount of receipts including recent rear brakes discs, pads and a few other expensive bills. The front discs and tyres will need doing in the 5-10k and the variators are an unknown but no current symptoms with stone cold starts etc. Overall condition 9/10. Still no idea on the mirror covers..

We shook on a deal that worked for me and I'm now the happy owner of a Maserati GT.

Thanks for all your help!

Congrats- that’s great news. Amazing the current owner didn’t have all the documentation on hand to show you.
Now enjoy the car!

Great work. Sounds like a good car & a good deal to the 6 hours & more I'm sure will have been worth it. It pays to buy the right & a good car rather than the wrong one.

New clutch and rear brakes...looks like you have got a bit of a bargain there...and shows why so many GTS remain unsold at their far higher asking prices...as for the 4.2 well sub 20k can't be far away now for those.

Enjoy the car and hope it gjves you miles of smiles.
