Hi guys,
Just a few updates on the progress with the car.
I was looking through the paperwork last night and it has a ticket showing the original importer as Maranello`s and the original supplying dealer as Carrs maserati of Exeter(so it looks like it has "come home").
It also states the car as a "MY04" which probably means something to someone.
I got back a cheque from the dealership who supplied this "pup"and it was made out to Carrs maserati so i have booked it into them for a full health check" an investigation into the petrol smell from the front and the 31,500mile service and a few other things.(i would llike to add that Carrs have been very helpful towards me and my purchase from before i bought... to the problems after i bought and they have done this without any attempt of financial gain,I will advise you of what the levels of service and workmanship are like when i have some experience).
If they could match the pricing of specialists then we would be onto something good.
I have noted that maserati garages have a "make your own price" up setup and the difference from one to another is sometimes monumental!
I have managed to find a breaker that had a full door seal for a great £100 from a 8000mile car and i have found an armrest lid in A1 from the same car.
I am negotiating for the sat nav CD.
The aircon has been fully serviced and now seems to be fixed.
THe smell of petrol is getting less and less but i will still pay to get it checked.
I have, once the servicing has been reinstated,a few cosmeticals to do.
I would like to space the weels by about 30mm if anyone knows of a company that can supply these.
I would like to revamp the canvas roof and replace the front grill.
I would like some sideskirts (sorry)
The leather and leather look plastic is booked for a recondition and all the spray repaires done by "billy bodge-it" will be redone professionally.
The 7 spoke alloys (again done by billy bodge-it) were sprayed and then laquered from the back of a van and its a really weak finish as it was never baked in an oven.I have them booked for a complete restoration to factory standards but in the 2010 grancabrio "gunmetal dark grey metallic" called Grigio mercury i believe. This company will take the wheels right back to the metal then add 7 coats of Primers ,paints and laquers and then oven bake in between.I have the aluminuim coloured brake calipers and will have the alu coloured wheel bolts and the light wheel centres with grigio raised maserati logo, so the light against dark should look great.
I am just getting a few more miles from the nasty budget tyres on the rear before i get the Pirelli Pzero rosso fitted (after the wheel revamp).
so things are hopefully starting to come together.
I will take some images as things progress styling wise.
regards
Adam

The smell of petrol is probably the carbon canister attached to the fuel tank in the back, its a service item and when changed, can leak if not done correctly.

Tyres, if you are after a good middle of the road make, the Falkens 452's come highly recommended. If you want to spend a little more go for the Vredsteins.

The wheel nuts should be chrome, dealers spray them silver as a quick fix, you can get them re chromed for about £60, do a search on here.

Looks like you are making head way, well done.

Great to see you have persevered Adam , the problems you had altho annoying are not insurmountable and you seem to be getting them knocked from the list systematically well done , im sure she will be a credit to you when the last one is completed , really looking forward to seeing some pics once you feel she is presentable well done mate

Re the tyres, agree with Matt , Pirelli's altho a very good tyre , are not worth the extra money , Im a Vredstein convert
and now swear by them, have them on both the 4200 and the GS just brilliant in all weathers extremely grippy in the dry , and far superior to the pirellis in the wet or when slightly damp

The best price i can get for the vredestein is £192.70 so both will be £385.40 yet i can get a set of Pirelli P zero for £375.00 inclusive.
I thought that these were midrange tyres but they appear to hold a premium price.
I guess its down to availability and demand.
Its also worth noting that the tyre is a winter tyre not all season.
I will stick with the P zeros this time.
Maybe someone can tell me what they pay for there tyres?

I often go through similar Adam when doing up my cars , i work within a strict budget (mainly because im thighter than a ducks ***) but once you bite that bullet and drive the bugger with a heavy right foot , that grin out weighs any extra you might of had to fork out , and fades into insignificance after the 3rd or 4th tankfull believe me ive been there ,nearly into my 4th year and 2 massers and i have honestly no regrets

Glad things are coming together - were you satisified with the sum that you extracted from the seller?

Not sure whether the 4200 tyres are the same size as 3200s, but with a bit of haggling I got Vredestein 265/35/18ZR online for £120 each delivered (plus £12 each for a local fitter that I trust). I went for the Vredestein becasue of the excellent reputation they've got - not just on the Maserati forums but seemingly accross the board. Pretty happy with them so far....

MY04 is model year 2004, and like loz said about pirelli's...personally i dont rate them as anything other than ditchfinders as on some cars they pull quite bad/get a bit stuck in lorry 'tramlines' and imo a bit overpriced... You can get brands such as avon and kuhmos in y ratings (avon cant be too bad since they were one of the brands taking over for formula 1) and my experience of them is they are quite good for the price.alex

Spacers from Formula Dynamics would be your best bet. They come in 2 sizes for the 4200, 15mm and 25mm and include all hardware related to fitting.

I believe a UK stockist/Distributor of Formula Dynamics products is to be announce on here very soon!.

Thanks

Loz, can you post up the cost as you have done above, but for the 19" rims of the GS, i dont seem to be getting those prices?

Might as well do the Falken 452's whilst your there,

Cheers bud.

Hi Guys,
I was looking at Wintrac xtreme because thats designed for Maserati
235/40 R 18 95 W XL
Front £141.00
Wintrac xtreme 265/35 R 18 97 W XL
Rear £192.70
The WINTRAC XTREME is the first winter tyre to be developed in partnership with Giugiaro Design. Aggressive, firm lines give the W-shaped tread its powerful appeal. Sipe technology was a priority for Vredestein in the design of the WINTRAC XTREME. Optimum Silica Processing™ (OSP™) technology is incorporated in the fabrication of the tread compound, enhancing the winter performance and improving grip on wet surfaces. In addition, the equal distribution of pressure across the contact area ensures an even wear pattern, whereby low noise levels are assured throughout the tyre’s life-span.

FEATURES BENEFITS
Developed by Giugiaro Design Powerful appearance due to aggressive, firm lines
Innovative sipe technology Straight sipes across the tread for a good grip on snow Zigzag sipes in the tread shoulders for perfect handling
Optimum Silica Processing™ (OSP™) in the tread compound Increased grip on wet surfaces Excellent aquaplaning stability Good performance on snow and ice
Speed ratings H, V and W True high-performance winter tyre with good course stability and steering precision
Equal distribution of pressure across the footprint Low noise levels throughout the tyre’s life-span Perfect driving performance in winter conditions

P.s my rear tyres are FULLRUN HP199 and they start from £55.00 for my sizes.
Made in china using some old bicycle tyres and an egg noodle recipe i would imagine

Can someone tell me what the top speed of the spyder is because i know for a fact that if you ever had the misfortune of having an insurance claim, the company will try to get out of paying in some way or another and the wrong speed rating is their get out of Jail (paying) free card.
It is worth noting this when choosing your tyres.
A w rating will not do for the 4200 as far as i can tell it has to be a Y rated ZR tyre.

Why would you want to put winter tyres on it, and why/how is it designed for a Maserati? (the speed rating is wrong for starters!).

I would go for the Vredestein Sessantas as suggested previously (and replace those horrible Fullruns ASAP!).

Hey guys, sorry to drag this thread up after nearly a decade! I just wanted to share my journey for anyone who's been in the same boat as me recently. I wasn't happy with the life and wet-grip of the P-Zeros, and after a considerable amount of research, these posts steered me in the right direction of CamSkill and Vredestein Ultrac Vorti, and I couldn't be happier. Personally, I think they look great (possibly not to everyone's tastes) and the price from CamSkill is great. I have a 2013 GTS, for anyone looking, here's a link:
