Oh I'm not arguing with *you* Just saying this is how it's calculated.....

C
And I'm not arguing back with *you* either. It stands to reason that if a the customer is paying a 'premium' for offset 'green and holy' electricity (and a blessing/pardon from the her ladyship Greta) then surely 'dirty, filthy, squalid, putrid, pestilent, diseased' electricity should be cheaper.

More synoyms always required.

'Interesting' point of 'offsetting' last night on Countryfile - some company is giving basalt away to farmers (it may improve soil fertility and capture carbon but it will take 20 years to be proven) and it can give it away because it then sells if's carbon offset 'points' to a big 'polluter' who needs them.....

I got caught up in carbon credits back in 2011with my pension through a dodgy advisor.
Totally unregulated and people now in prison.
Aston Martin build the Sygnet to Offset their carbon footprint and they haven't built anything similar since.

On the recent BBC series Earth by Chris Packham, it claimed (as no one was there to prove it!) that the plunge in temperatures culminating in the Ice Age was down to the capture of CO2 due to the vast amounts of volcanic material including basalt. Now, a farmer spreading a bit of Basalt isn't going to bring us back to Ice age levels of CO2 (~200ppm*) but we do need to reduce the present 400ppm to the 1950 level of 300ppm so that we can enjoy buring fossil fuels in a more pleasureable way. i.e in a NA V8

The 36.1% of fossil fuel use is solely for electricity generation, it does not include the volume of gas used directly for heating and industrial processes. The total fossil fuel usage I would suggest is between 60 and 70% of the total energy mix, this does not include oil derivatives for transport, this would take the FF percentage around 90%. Net zero is a pipedream dreamt up by those who wish to instil fear to get funding for their various pet projects.

Just been reading how much it's costing the NHS in fines and how much it will cost to replace the fleet of Ambulances to be compliant too.
You would think they should be exempt along with all Emergency Vehicles ?
Agree, especially given that TFL busses are exempt!

Net zero is possible but we have to considerably reduce the big pluses. Coal electricity generation (very dirty) in the UK has rapidly declined over the last 10 years. Oil, OCGT (gas without boilers) are soon to follow. Wind, solar and CCGT has largely replaced it .
We need more nuclear and replace gas with something that can quickly meet demand. Pumped water and batteries seem favourite.
One thing we should be proud of in the UK is that our carbon intensity in generating electricity has reduced by over half in ten years.

Been reading up about Hemp and the many uses and benefits it can give especially for the Planet with the fact it creates more Oxygen than Trees and also gets rid of CO2.
It can be recycled many times too.
Obviously the Big Rich Players who Control everything don't want any of it.
Now before I get attacked my Science Knowledge is only slightly more than Boris Johnson but it's all on Google.
