Tyres - To Run Flat or Not

My rear tyres are down to 4mm not sure how long they will last, fronts are OK but am contemplating run flats.

Rears are currently PZero 285/40 ZR18 (101Y)
Fronts are Pzero 245/45 ZR18 (100Y)

When I used to race motorbikes I always liked Michelin Pilots, not sure if they are available in these sizes and in runflats.

Thoughts please?

Thanks Phil,

I've got the Pzeros on the 911 and they are brilliant, but that is probably more to do with the fact that it is a Carrera 4.

Have to admit that I feel like I am driving on eggs with the QP and the Pzero's, only problem is that I need all-round tyres as the QP will be driven in the winter as well, that's why I was leaning towards the Michelins, are any of yours runflats?

Yep, I forgot about that and that the Pzeros on the 911 are specially created for the 911's and nothing else.

Dunlops are on all of my cars, very quiet especially on a quiet road like the new section of the A338 but not the concrete section of the M25 around the A3! Good grip even in the cold last week

The Pirelli I took off mine were Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimettrico and in that size were designed especially for the QP.

You have a very limited choice if you want all four to match mainly because the size is very rare.

And no, Runflats are absolutely awful, any car I get which has them on I immediately remove them.

Pirelli P Zero - good all round tyre. Wear fast.
Bridgestone RFT - noisy, hard to mount on rims without damage. Good wear rate.
Toyo - tricky in rain. Good dry grip.

Definitely avoid run flats.

For me, it's the Pirelli's. But they do wear fast and are need to be replaced earlier than you might normally think. Even driving sedately you'll not get 10k miles out of a set of rears on a QP V.

Avoid run-flats like the plague, they are sh!t; hard ride, bad handling and poor wear. Never gone for Pirellis as I've heard they are not great; Ok in the dry but bad in the wet, which is not great in this country. There are better all round tyres.

I've always gone for Michelin PS3's. The grip from them is awesome, the only downside I guess is they're slightly noisier on the road.
However, I doubt that'll be an issue with the V8 drowning out any road noise.

About to move fronts to Michelin Pilot Sports, Pirellis on the rear will also be Michelin as soon as they wear which is expected to be a miserable 8K - terrible tyre and will be glad to see the back of them. They were fine on the Porsche but just don't suit the Maserati. Also worth registering with Michelin as they run promotions - http://www.michelin.co.uk/register

What a difference an inch makes !

I had bridgestones on my rears when i bought the car and they were fine. Not sure how long they had been on there but i put 8K on them and i dont think they were new when i got the car.

Thanks Phil & Keano, appreciate your help.

And as for the run flats, no I won't be going for them now.

Much appreciated Phil, will give you a shout, I reckon I will need to change them in probably less than 2 months as I have various trips to London and the North.

Can he arrange delivery?
