My set of PS4Ss are now 5 maybe 6 years old and although they still have plenty of wear left there’s no way they’ll be as fresh and sticky as they once were. What’s the collective opinion on proper grippy boots? PS4S seem to have been eclipsed by Conti SportContact 7s and even (whisper it) the newest PZeros.

I have the sport 6s on the rear of the GTS and more than happy with them. I also have a set of P zero runflata on the front which are horrible and I will be changing for the 6s or 7s as soon as I can bear to pull a set of tyres with 6-7mm of tread.

I think the PS4S is still a great tyre. The fact there will always be improvements with the next generation doesn’t make it a bad choice. On that basis I’d make my decision on availability between the offerings from Continental and Michelin. I’m allergic to Pirelli’s whatever the latest test tells me! Michelins just seem to always have a great balance of longevity and performance in the wet and dry.

Got a set of PS4s for the Gransport — Conti 7s were cheaper, right enough. If I wisnae dead set on the PS4s, I’d’ve given the Contis a go. Funny thing is, the 275s were a hundred quid cheaper than the 265s!

I can see that. The Contis are on the QP and the Stelvio, and they are awesome...last longer than the Michelins, too.

IF you can get the PZeros warm before you really start to use them, they are actually a decent tyre…

Having said that, when cold, they are slippier than a slippy thing slip sliding away…

The only way to warm Pirellis properly is like this:

The Ferrari 456GTA that I had was shod with factory fit Pirelli tyres and I put it on track twice too.
One of the few cars I've not spun off.
I had a big one in the 360 on Michelins but that was on a wet track.

Pirellis are fine in the dry but when it gets cold and wet different story.

I like Conti's always have but I think they need a few hundred miles to burn off what ever release compound they use as they massively improve after that.

Pirelli tends to split opinions. Personally, I think they’re excellent once warmed up and they handle abuse better than Michelin or Continental.
That said, the days when I pushed every corner to the edge of my skill—and just shy of the car’s limits—are long gone.
For drivers who aren’t pushing hard, Michelin and Continental are probably the better choice. They don’t need to warm up, they won’t catch you out on a damp corner, and they’re generally more forgiving and composed.”

I’ll probably move on to Contis when the Maser and Jaaag come up for renewal. Interesting to note that Gordon Murray specced PS4S’ for the T50. I might also have a look at the PS5S’ as I like Michelins.
