Tyre Pressures for GTS

maybe c'man's car is a true one off ;)

Haha! I think it's the newest MC so I wonder if Maser revised its guidance based on experience. There aren't really any major differences between his and mine other than age, as far as I know. Mind you, I can't see what difference the 'box would make to tyre pressure guidance either, and BB's auto also runs 2.2 bar iirc.

All a bit bloody odd!

Yes to 2.2 all round. The only issue is that the MC gearbox is in the back so there is more weight on the rear axle.

Confusion reigns! Is my handbook a one off print error? Certainly seem the odd one out. For those who have worn through a set of Pirelli rears was it the centre that went low first or even across the tread. If it was the centre, reducing rear pressure might make sense?

My 62 plate GTS MC Shift also says to run the Pirellis at 2.0 bar so maybe it is only in the handbooks of the later S MC Shifts.
Thanks for pointing this out, I had not noticed it.

I'll drop my rears down to 2.0 bar and leave the fronts at 2.2, then. I assume Maserati refined its guidance on later models based on experience. Next tyres unlikely to be Pirellis, but until then...

2.0 bar is very low IMHO. Anyway if you put people in the back, the pressure will need to rise and with the MC having a more rearward weight bias, it all makes little sense to me.

My 2012 GTS MC Shift handbook say's the same as C4sman, 2 bar at rear if running Pirelli's otherwise 2.2bar. Perhaps as BB mentioned gearbox at the rear on these cars?

I'm MC but the manual says 2.2. No mention of reducing to 2.0 with Pirelli.

Mine does! Gives recommended tyre sizes too.

Nope, nothing like that on mine! Their seems to be more differences than expected between model years! I have checked both door sills and the inside of the fuel cap (which is where the Porsche and Merc have theirs) and no tyre info to be found.

Just bumping this thread as it may prove useful to others. Just put new boots all around on the GTS having run the rear Pirelli tyres at the handbook recommended lower pressure of 2.0 and looking at the old tyres I would say that they have worn pretty evenly across the tread pattern. You could say the outer quarter has worn more than the rest but not a lot in it, so it seems it is OK to run at this lower pressure for the MC Shift cars.

I got 8k out of the rears, the fronts could go further but decided to change them anyway due to inner edge wear and slight tread cracking (pretty poor for tyres manufactured only 2 years ago and 16 months on my car).

Hope this info might be useful for someone!

Thank you, this is indeed very helpful as I have been wondering the same thing! My handbook says to run 2.0bar in the rears and 2.2bar on the fronts. I guess more pressure is needed at the front given that's where the engine sits?
