Tyre gunk

Just had the car serviced and was informed that the tyre gunk is passed its use by date. Anyone else had any experience of this and wondered what the general view was?

Not sure if I should replace (in which case any suggestions on where to get one) or not worry about it.

Downside - you have to be able to “see” the puncture to repair it.
