Tracker subscription renewal

Had the letter through today. £300 for 1 year! Seems an absolute rip off to me. I was expecting it to be around half that price.

Car insurance wont touch it without one. Was wondering if anyone had any luck negotiating a discount for a tracker subscription renewal?

I suggest having 'a' tracker fitted. I'm sure there are many products out there at varying price ranges.

Maybe I live in a low risk area but when I sorted out my insurance it saved me £50 off my policy if I had a tracker subscription for £300. It wasn't mandatory but I went ahead with it all the same, I'll certainly not bother next time. They've rung me up three times in the middle of the night to ask me if my car has gone only for me to leg it down and find it sitting quietly in the garage. The whole crying wolf thing just makes this pointless now, I've turned my phone on to silent at night and just ignore the calls for the most part. If the calls went straight to the police they'd be shut down in no time.

Maybe look at changing insurers instead?

Last two policies were mandatory to have a tracker fitted. Ghibli's come with the dearest NAVTRAK system fitted as standard. Apparently that's why it's £300 a year. Cobra was bought out by Vodafone and is now Vodafone Automotive.

Spoke to them today and told them I wasn't renewing. Wondering if I might get a call closer to the end date with an offer, the way Sky and the mobile phone companies do it. Probably in for disappointment but you never know...

Amazed you need a tracker. Have you considered dropping the value of the car down to likely retail for it's age (£40k?) as the insurers tend to work on value thresholds and if you forget to drop the value it affects the premium and conditions.

Already done that. Did it through one of the price comparison sites and it automatically gave an estimated value figure which seemed accurate against similar cars for sale on Autotrader. Amazed at the premiums I'm having to pay on this car, never mind the tracker requirement. My previous car was a M3, bought new and it never required a tracker and the premiums were less than half. Crazy considering it was infinitely more stealable, faster and worth more. Maybe insurers are just seeing "New Maserati" and lumping it together with £100k GT and QPs.

There must be more to it than that. When I changed my insurance from my 6 year old £10k Alfa 159 to my new Ghibli the premium went down. No requirement for a Tracker, either.

Don't understand this. I pay under £300 for my Maser insurance.

Bit the bullet and coughed up for the renewal today. No last minute discount or offer.

Bastards.

It also depends on your postcode.

For my Noble I paid I think £700 and I have a life time subscription on the tracker. I also have to pay extra because it is in a garage! Something to do with all the careless folk breaking their wing mirrors when parking in a garage apparently.

The Masser a lot of companies wouldn't allow me to park it on the street without a tracker because of its value. So I just shopped around till I found one that did. In the end the yearly saving was still cheaper than activating the tracker.

Personally with the Masser if it gets stolen I would rather not have it back as it would have been thrashed. I would rather get my money and get another one.

I'm the same. Not interested in getting a car back after it's been nicked. I've not long renewed my insurance and picked up some points shortly after, so the hassle of having to shop around and potentially seeing a premium increase for the extra points and the lack of tracker led to just paying up.
