Think the new ones are great...Still think the older ones lack dynamics but they do have a great ride but thats because the old people like to feel comfortable.....;-).......

My brother in law had an old XJ....Reallt comfortable and great at eating up the miles but far too much body roll.....Nice interior...

I too had an old XJ (The XJ faulty model with the part digital dash), it was appalling, on the odd occasion there was nothing wrong with it it was nice and comfortable but the reliabilty coupled with all of the lacquer comming off (probably a forerunner of todays fashionable matt paint) made me swear I would never get another Jag, I actually gave the thing away to a guy round the corner but having had an XF for 3 years and now driving the new XJ I dont think I could go for Mercedes, Audi or BMW equivalents. On a slightly different subject I missed the date for the second service (year 2) on my XF but have just had it done at the correct mileage (32,000), I cant believe they dont fit a service indicator, does anyone know how much the leasig company are going to hit me for due to the service being late (very late) ?

The later XJ's were a very different car to the earlier models. I had my XJR for quite a few years and it never failed to start, or behave exactly as it should. The XJR with the electronic suspension has little body roll and in sport is nice and tight, I have pushed it to the limit on many corners and apart from the odd skip at the limit sometimes, they hold on very well.
Now this is a Maserati forum and I will stop any further comment...!!!

i`ve a new shape XJ a 5.0 petrol and it certainly shifts, had id almost a year and my only gripe is that it`s suspension set up is a tad firm for my use as a motorway cruiser.

Keeping it

Renewed the insurance and road tax for another year. Couldn't easily find anything to replace/improve on current car but will try and get a ride in an XF and a CLS. It may just be that the road tests will sway the decision. Thanks for all the interest. P.S. Insurance this coming year is £290.
