To sell or not to sell

Dave,
They are of limited interest to a lot, because they imagine the costs of ownership to be massive, when it's not..!! When selling use some figures to impress, mpg, typical insurance, etc., this can help someone realise that they could actually own a supercar and run it..!!

Sorry to hear you may sell...the DB 9 does not offer much more if anything over a 4200 esp at almost 3x the price.

I have to agree with the above. I was very underwhelmed by a friend's DB9. Bland interior, no rear seats, tiny boot and no faster than my 3200 at the time. I prefer the V8 Vantage, but after a recent test drive of one I decided to buy a GranSport.

Agree that the DB9 doesn't have much more to offer except; (positive) 4 more cylinders a proper auto box/torque converter, aluminium body; (negative) unusable - joke rear seats, about 10mpg less; (equal) the lines are as stunning and as many or perhaps more hideous colour combinations as Maserati 4200. The DB was about £60k when I bought my 4200 but they're down to about £30k now and maybe the depreciation curve is leveling out a little as I hoped the 4200 would.

Dave, feel free to pass if you're anti- dealer but I may be able to help you out regards pricing your 4200. If not, all the best with the sale and search. I agree on the DB9 being a disappointment, I'd say £30k needs to be a Gransport or a Vantage if you don't want a QP.

Absolutely no hard feelings, with the greatest of respect there may be exceptions to every situation. OK change my mind ! You can PM if you prefer or keep it open.......your call.

I wouldn't put it on here, value is massively dependent on condition and history for me, whereas many places it's just what the book says. Lots of variables so best to discuss it if you wished.

Dave I am probably one of dicky's latest customers (had my spyder less than a week) and he is excellent to deal with. Not you usual pork pie hat merchant!! He is probably the most straight up dealer cum enthusiast I have dealt with. What he will do is ensure any trade is good for you and him which is what business is all about. If its not the right deal for you and him he won't pressure.

Dicky hasn't paid me to say that BTW!

The book.....is just that....way too many variables.......need to know what your are looking at.......and know them inside out...a good looked after 4200 is well worth having...incredible value for money....:)

Frank,
I totally agree with that. The book price does only give an average and some are well below that, but some are far better and the price should reflect it. 4200 is exceptional value for the car you get, not much else comes close..!!

I have had a diesel XF 3.0s for 3 years as my company car and it has been faultless, almost as fast as my 3200, superbly comfortable and ultra reliable. I have been considering changing to an E class 350 coupe but had a test drive in an XJ today and it was by far and away the best car I have ever driven ( even better than my old Alfa 156 GTA ). The leasing cost for the £60k+ XJ was actually cheaper than the costs for another £47k XF which sealed the deal for me. The dealer told me that Jaguar "support" the leasing deals on XJ's in order to shift cars without having to devalue the model by reducing the price.

Jags are great, I was sorry to let mine go, but I was running out of space. The XJ is a superb car, get the XJR if you possibly can, you will be surprised..!!

I have been looking at XF diesels and was surprised to see your comment, I'd love an XJ, so I had a look at the jaguar website and yes there appears to be a "dealer deposit contribution" of £13,000 on the XJ! Cripes.

Yes but probably by the company car tax bill !!!! the XJ 3.0 will cost me almost £500 per month, I reckon the supercharged version would be nearer £800.

Think the new ones are great...Still think the older ones lack dynamics but they do have a great ride but thats because the old people like to feel comfortable.....;-).......

My brother in law had an old XJ....Reallt comfortable and great at eating up the miles but far too much body roll.....Nice interior...
