Heard on the news earlier , that there are early rumblings to introduce a ban for making it illegal to smoke in cars :vahidrk: , mainly to prevent the passive intake by children , what is this government up to , when already they cant police the use of mobile phones they try to introduce some thing which affects a really small minority , whilst i dont condone smoking in front of children , how about those who dont have kids:conf1: , i enjoy nothing more than a country drive window open and a ciggy and a larini , yet another bah humbug labour un-inforcable waste of our money

rant over :frusty6:

Even without kids they would have been gunning for the smoker drivers eventually anyway. A guy near me was given a ticket & 3 points by the polis for blowing his nose when parked in traffic, with handbrake on, as he was deemed not in control of the vehicle. You probably saw it as it made national news (eventually the prosecution was withdrawn). If that is the mentaility then smoking while driving is going to be worth at least 9 points.......................

I will be interesting to see what they deem smoking in a car, if you hang the *** out the window and put your mouth to it, surely you are then smoking outside the car, madness, just pure madness!

With moby's, it was approached from a safety point of view, with ciggies it's being approached from a health point of view, particularly passive smoking. A more difficult one to push through on these grounds I think, which along with difficult enforcement brings civil liberties into play. An Englishman's Maser is his castle after all!

Loz...I think this is entirely fair.......why ruin the the fine smell of best Italian leather with 2/3/4 day old smoke...................????!!!!

UNLESS....in the true UM way of thinking they are the finest....Cohibas......rolled on the lightly perspired, inner, upper thighs of 20 year old Cuban divas.......

SH!T....got a bit carried away there........( was that tobacco ****...;)....?....)............but will always compromise.....:)....:)

Anyone driving a high performance machine like a Maserati knows that in order to stay safe on the road you need the observation skills of a fighter pilot. When you apply that sort of standard to someone driving whilst using a mobile phone, then they are bound to fall short since they are so often in a world of their own and completely oblivious to the changing conditions around them. Ultimatetly this means that they are putting both you and me at risk in the process. A change in the law to make this an endorsable offence was in my view both reasonable and justified. The case for smoking is very different. That said if there any distractions in the car then extra care is needed..... And that's more than enough from me for one day!
