Think I've confused the alarm

Hi Guys

Some of you might be aware that I change the rubber button in the key fob yesterday. I found a bit of hard plastic in the fob and decided to leave it out when I put the key back together. I originally thought I snapped something inside the key but couldn't find any damage so I decided the bit of plastic didn't belong there.

Anyway this morning I tried to start the car with the black key without the plastic bit and the car won't start i.e. the "code" l.e.d. stayed on. I went and got the red key and managed to start the engine. Slightly puzzled I refitted the plastic bit to the black key and voila the black key is working again................except......now I can't activate the alarm with the black key. The doors lock when the button is pressed but the alarm goes off!

Does anyone know what I've done to the alarm??

What year is the car , the early ones dont have the battery isolator switch , worth doing a battery reset and starting from afresh , leave the battery off for 10 mins and then re-connect

Matt will know the procedure from there as im only really conversant with 4200 and gransports in this area , i know that the 4200's automatically reset the the alarm and lock the doors as soon as the battery is reconnected

regardless no damage has been done its just a set procedure thing so no real worries

worth a try

Sounds like you've knackered it. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

The car is 2000. As far as I can see there is no real damage done....yet! Took the car for an hour drive thinking that it may sort itself out lol.

Pretty sure it will the have the isolator switch in that case , which is less than 6 inches from where the battery is housed towards the front of the car , its a round knob , so turn it 180 degrees , that will isolate the battery, if you dont have the isolator just disconnect the battery , and then re-connect it 10 mins later , once done let all the electrics do there thing for atleast a minute or two before you even try anything else , (you may hear the car set the alarm and lock the doors, the 4200 do this , then its just a case of unlocking in the normal way with the key blip , i would try it several times to make sure its all back to normal

Hope that works

Just another added , on the 4200's sometimes if the alarm/ immobiliser gets confused it can be reset by clicking the key blip 16 times , this also resets the bleeps behind the dash

According to the manual I should have a master/isolator switch but unfortunately I looked and there isn't. I'm ordering new sets of keys soon so when they program the new keys to the system they can reset it as well!

Strange, I disconnected the battery to reset the alarm system and the black key did work immediately afterwards but later on in the afternoon the problem came back, went away and now back again.

Try blipping the alarm/unlocking on and off 16 times , i know this works on the 4200/gransports as ive actually done it myself at Enzo's house when i had a problem

hope it helps , failing that from a distance its difficult to assess so a trip to the dealers
