These don’t come up for sale very often

I’ve only ever seen one of these on the road, on the A127 in Essex of all places.

Sat in one at Jaguar Brentwood many years later. Didn’t feel like a super car but can see why they go for the money they do.

have come across a couple at auctions in the past couple of years, big flop for jag at the time took a load of deposits and then changed the spec p1ssing a load of people off and having to issue refunds, right royal fook up by them and yes the engine is a derivative of the specially commissioned 6R4 engine for group b rally, seen prices steadily creep up on these now

They dropped to sub £100k for a short period a good ten years ago and have since been on the incline. Great cars with the 6R4 engine inside much to the disdain of people who ordered them after being told that they would have a V12 engine. Many customers sued Jaguar when the car was launched with a V6 Turbo engine.

too right, can't imagine too many 550 owners being happy with a V6 turbo!!

IIRC a handful of customers tried to sue for return of their deposits, but it was Jaguar who successfully sued customers for breach of contract in failing to complete the purchase of their cars, and deposits of c£50k were forfeit.

It was back in the early 90's when Jaguar had to contend with rising costs and a recession, and double digit interest rates were the norm. Buyers had ordered cars, with speculators amongst them intending to resell their cars at a healthy mark-up. Then the price increased and the final specification changed so many tried to bail out, arguing that their deposits were effectively taken on false promise. Jaguar gave them the chance to buy their way out of their contracts then sued those who declined and wanted their money back. Jaguar won their case, and I'm sure the lawyers would have made a few quid along the way.

This seems a lot for a non works car, especially considering it wasn’t they long ago they were getting shunted into banks in rallycross. But I think I’d prefer this to the 220

that's been for sale for a fair while now, as you say way too much for a non works car, I reckon more around the 200k
