She's a 1953 ref 6036. Sold a lot of watches to buy it. Geo, my dad had a Spaceview, I still have it, that's what got me started on watches.

Happy new year all.
This thread interests me deeply. I am not a watch person but have in the past decade gifted my dad a Tag and a Rolex. Personally happy with my Tissot touchscreen.
I am now looking for a ladies watch for Mrs Sommi's 40th! I have seen a lot of internet chatter on gents watch but for ladies watches don't seem to be that big a deal.
What should I look for? Have you gifted your partner a lovely timepiece and did they like it?
Cost wise if I have to go into 10k+ it will have to be an investment piece. Not fussed whether new or used.

Disappointed she hasn't got a Gold watch mate after last year's advice

There is a gold chain in the background though.
That's a good variety. And looks like one of them could be worn daily.
Gold tone would not be ideal for daily wear.
I will start visiting watch shops this month. My target is to get something by July. Birthday is in August.

I thought some of you might be interested in the story behind this Rolex pocket watch I bought on eBay.
I did a lot of internet research to find out what the inscription on the watch was all about. I discovered that the watch had been awarded by way of thanks for helping rescue a family from a stricken yacht in Cuckmere Bay. The yachts owner was Sir A. P. Herbert ex member of parliament. I also traced photos and information regarding the rescuer Mr Martin and the ship he sailed in.

Lovely story and spot on research.

It always surprises me when people turn up on antiques roadshow or similar with an inscribed or signed item but have they have never done any investigation / research.
