Rolex have managed their supply chain well, with the relative lack of supply helping to keep up levels of interest and second-hand values. For example, and if you could find one, you could buy a popular Datejust or Submariner for its RRP of (say) £10k today, and then sell it tomorrow for £12k.

Whereas for something equally rugged but wearable such as Omega or Breitling, you wouldn't dream of paying the full RRP in the first place. And you would then expect it to drop another third as you walk out of the shop. So, an equivalent watch with an RRP of 10K would most likely only return you maybe £6k if you had to out it the following day.

Of course, you don't just buy a watch for economic reasons. But I'm pleased that the (modest) profits on my two Rolex watches are counter balancing the losses on my others.

A bit like buying a Maserati then.

My Panerai. Its an expensive fugese. When I took it to a jewellers to get the strap adjusted they didn't spot it was a fake

Unless they were a Panerai authorised dealer, why would they mention it? Perhaps they were just being polite.

I don’t get the anti-Rolex thing. Most Rolex watches are relatively plain looking and modestly sized, so not flashy at all. Nothing like the offer-sized look-at-me offerings from the likes of Hublot, Panerai, Brietling, etc.
For many, me included, the joy of a Rolex is that it is understated and wearable, while being of high quality. (Of course, you have chose your model carefully!)
Each to their own, though.

I was going to say that the number font is wrong and the guard is upside down but a google of pics suggest that yours is simply different to mine.

Perhaps the camera angle but I can't see the L to the left of Swiss Made either?

So all told, a decent homage.

I'm not anti Rolex - I just don't want one and would spend my money elsewhere.

As they say each to there own, I dont dislike Rolex although some are a bit over the top (or just fugly) but thats true of a lot of brands, however they have never been on my list of wants. Like most things I guy what I like / can afford and am not worried whether it is a good investment etc, maybe wrong approach but i am happy with it.

I've never been a fan of Rolex and thus have always purchased others brands I like the look of, at various prices. I've been lucky to have IWC Portuguese , JLC Reverso , Panerai Luminor, Brietling Superocean Chrono, Rado Diastar (vintage) as well as numerous Tissot & Ebels etc. I have however found a Rolex I really like, a Milgauss and love it, it's very different. I've always found that lots of people recognise a Rolex but those that know horology often spot the other makes and that's led to some wonderful conversations over the years. I've been fortunate that a family member widely indulged his love of timepieces over the years, so much so that on a visit to Harrods preCovid he was remembered and treated like a returning prince ( he did get a ver y special deal on a Hublot and yet another Reverso) He's also been over the years on a visit to JLC and has a few of their watches along with a personalised watchmakers repair kit from them. He always says buy what you like and not what others tell you, watches are like wine, a lot of snobbery and a lot of people with a little knowledge spouting opinions. Your wrist size should also be a consideration, not many salesmen will suggest a smaller watch for slim wrists when they really should be. As an earlier poster said, it's a good job we are all different and can all share our thoughts and photos of some utterly lovely arm candy.

Love the Milgauss. There are some good examples available on the Watch Finder website currently.
The other plain and simple Rolex that is is similarly small and understated is the Air King. And these are quite reasonably priced (by expensive watch standards, that is!).

I may have treated my ladylike wrists to said Milgauss, much to the SOH 'surprise'...... ok it wasn't surprise, just stony silence...
