took the car out yesterday and all seems great - thanks all

took your advice and drove hard and found out that yep - brakes not great with all the round abouts in MK almost had a new sculpture in MK, Loz maybe I need some of your drift training :)

cars back at home, just a few things to sort out, I've taken part of the dash and door panels off to get part numbers - now just need to get the parts from Maserati or breakers (if I'm lucky)

Glad alls well that ends well

1st just to wish you all a Merry jolly Christmas and a great new year...

my issues is sort of back, everytime I fill up the car turns over but won't fire up, I have to switch the car battery off, wait 2ish mins - switch back on and the car starts. I've tried this with the battery fully charged and I'm 5 mins away from the petrol garage, also drove around for about 10-15mins before filling up and same issue. if I stop at home, wait 5-10 mins (which is about the time to fill up) the car starts no problem.

just wondering does the fuel system need to be under presure ? as this seem to be only difference between starting and not starting by opening the fuel cap ?

at the petrol station being in just a great car people do stand around waiting for the car to fire up and then its so embarrassing when it doesn't, I got a cheer yesterday when it finally fired up ?

Think this came up before, check the petrol cap is sealing properly....did a bit of a search but couldn't see it

thanks - also did a quick search and did find anthing, I'll have a anotehr look when I've finished work

so with the cap on and if I stop the car and then restart about 10mins later its fine ? its only seems to be when filling up, therefore the cap is off, would this still be a seal issue ?

I too remember this, but cant for the life of me remember the fault.

I had something similar on my Alfa and after changing the TDC sensor, which is a classic hot start fail fault, I replaced the relay for the fuel pump and that fixed it.

So, back to basics, if the car does not start its either electrical or fuel. It would sound like its a fuel pressure fault so would check the fuel pump relay/fuse then go from there.

There is a valve on the fuel rail to the injectors that you can press and a jet of fuel should squirt out. I suggest you try this and if it dribbles out will give you some insight as to your problem.

I also saw this on a 3200 and it turned out to be the immobiliser kicking in, next time it happens, lock and unlock the car and make sure the padlock indicator goes out on the dash.

If you think about what you are doing when you fill up with fuel, you are filling the tank to the top so maybe its a breather sort of like air getting trapped...test the fuel rail then and see if you have pressure.

Good luck!

thanks, will try the valve later - I did think about the immobiliser as I do lock the car when I go to pay

The immobiliser can still not disarm, I have seen it on several 3200's and the system is surely the same, give it a whirl, you never know.
