Good Morning all.
Today will be spent chasing outstanding invoices.
Since coming back to Europe and working here again as self employed its gone perfectly.
Nothing has landed in the bank this month and after all the graft and hours of travel its a little annoying.
Highlight for today will be a hair appointment always pleasurable in a Salon with the ladies :)

Morning all, all good for me at the moment but sad to report an ‘alternator’ issue hit the camper yesterday in an extremely rural spot on the B709 half way between Peeble and Galashiels yesterday about 2 pm no phone signal for over a mile down the road! Unable to fix it himself, Alex had no choice but to leave Gemma and Doggo at the van and trudge down the hill, breakdown service arrived 5 pm but don’t carry rotor arms or dizzy caps these days, couldn’t fix it and left to await recovery. A whole evening of trying to sort recovery and a hotel, at 11 pm they gave up and bedded down where they were and then a recovery truck rocked up! Didn’t get to the hotel till well gone midnight! No dinner and rather rattled it has put a dampener on things. Hope they can find a specialist today or it will be coming home on a flatbed!!!

Have fun all...

Is it the alternator or distributor that's the issue Newton as you mention the breakdown people not carrying a cap or rotor arm.
If its the alternator brushes give it a gentle tap with a tapping implement and it might start charging to get them out of trouble mate.

Not good, modern mechanics struggle when there is no where for them to plug in their computer

I wonder how many breakdown techs could fit a set of ignition points on the side of the road these days ???

Ok well we are going 'old school' to deal with this; Alex is asking the hotel for an extension lead to get the battery on charge, I've found a local motor factors an Uber away and by 10.30 they will have for him:

Distributor cap
Rotor Arm
HT lead set
Points set
Spark Plugs

That should cover all bases, he has a set of feeler gauges with him! he needs to buy a spark plug spanner though.

Back to the hotel by 11.00 he can fit most of it except the points and try to start it, if still no go I'll talk him through the points! At least he has phone signal now and food in his belly...

Lovely Dave; first car I rebuilt with my dad as a kid for my mum to drive, sent the body off to resorers and we did all the mechanics was an A40 MkII Countryman in sage.... Remember when we were rebuilding the engine we left the Haynes manual on the top of the block overnight and the pistons dropped creating a vacuum which put two blisters on the back of the book! They always remained on it! Memories eh...

Anyway update, Alex got a taxi there and back and all the bits were there for him. He changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm and tested the spark to a good healthy one and reconnected and good to go! Happy days; loaded up, repaired the hotel driveway from the low loader, thanked them, got on the blower to the Flux breakdown cover and updated them, clearly stating NOT to close the case but that they were going to head home....

Still going and driving well apparently!

Brilliantly executed Newton.
Love a Happy Ending.
With a Classic if you have fuel and a spark with nothing hanging out the side you can usually get going.
