i used to have Larini's on mine but the vibration at idle and the drone meant they didn't last long (actually I had the dealer remove them before I even bought the car). After much I went for a custom system - Prospeed exhausts in Cardiff. It cost £1200 and the fabricated and fitted a complete custom system in a day - so I have backboxes and sports cats. It sounds great - much more grumble at low revs and a great sound at high revs. No drone, and when idling it's a nice sound not too over the top. A great solution all in all. Only downside is that you can't easily hear before you buy (though you're welcome to come listen to mine - Wimbledon area - it won't necessarily be exactly what you get as they're not off-the-shelf). Plus you need to go to Cardiff for them - I did it in one long day - left home at 6am, there by 9:00, spent the day shopping and then returned at 5:30 to collect the car. I would recommend them.

Cheers,
Ben.

A good shop will not rest untill your happy , generally the price quoted encompasses this or it should do , Thing is is to be as specific about what you want as you can , tell them they should price the job accordingly, possibly to allow for a few changes here and there if needed ,

Ben are you sure the larini's were fitted correctly and the vibration/drone wasn't caused by ill fitting , when my car originally went into Larini for the complete system R and D work obviously the remit was , no drone /no vibration /removal of the quish pipes /free flow they accomplished it with really good result and ive never had any cabin boom or resonance so makes me wonder re your fitting

For others who buy off the shelf boxes or exhaust components be sure to ask the tech thats fitting that his remit is to achieve no resonance or cabin boom ,

tweeks can be made here and there , they just need to know what there doing

I have larini rear boxes, and yes I do have the drone as well.
It's not a vibration sound, just very deep bass in the cabin, that is 'released' by opening a window, like a pressure buildup.
The first time a drove the car with them fitted, it was raining so had the windows closed, and I though "what have I done!"
I have got used to them now, but if another section of exhaust can be changed to remove the drone...I am "all ears"!

Sorry P, I don't want to come over all augmentative, but how do you know the difference in quality between MIJ and Autoshield? I visited MIJ, and they were very accommodating. Their work was very good quality and they assured me they would adapt the sonics to my liking within the limits of the process and the parts involved. They wouldn't weld them on if you asked for them to be push-clamp fitment.

For my two-penneth events then overtook me as my one of my cats collapsed and so I ended up going full Larini (sports cats, H-pipe and non-valved back boxes) on my 4200, however I would not go the same way again - never. Overpriced and droney. Instead I would go custom design and fitment and I'd probably ask Marios to to the work. Any old work shop can add volume, but you need someone that understands Maserati's to add the right sort of volume.

Just my thoughts......

Not at all Miles......maybe to be clearer....Marios explained that the guys who made his also marketed them elsewhere, but he insisted on a thicker grade S/S....plus as I say can be removed easily.

I didn't visit MIJ.....so can't truly compare......personally.

Loz - no idea on how mine were fitted as actually they were never really 'my' larinis - just what was on the car when I tested it. It was really the somewhat (in my opinion) over the top noise on tickover I couldn't live with so they took them off before I bought it (and reduced the price by £1k). The sound when hooning was spectacular however and there are always times I wish I had them back!

Do the straight pipe replacement drone?
I have never heard them, but with no silencing at all would image they are very loud?
