Test driving a 4200 on Saturday - any tips (esp. on the CC gearbox)

Hi,

So I'm test driving a 2003 facelift 4200 CC on Saturday. My current car is a 230 Kompressor CLK and it's pretty much the most powerful car I've driven to date (with exception to a huge 4x4 on a sand island!).

Just wondering about the CC box and techniques of using it.

My Merc has a tiptronic box that works by pushing the gear selector left or right. I usually take my foot of the accelerator, nudge the stick, wait for the change, then back on the power.

Cheers,
R

A 2003 facelift? Should that be 2005? As to the CC, if you are pushing on keep the throttle buried and take the gear change quality it gives you. If cruising, just feather the throttle as you change up and that will smooth it out. ALWAYS use sport and ALWAYS paste it! Have fun.

According to my research - mid 2003 saw the Maserati Stability control, skyhook suspension and an update to the CC box.

Thanks - sport mode it shall be - and thanks for the tips for gear changes.

Looking forward to driving it!

Ah right. I have always considered the GS front on the 4200 as being the face lift. The 2003 changes were more mechanical than aesthetic. Anyway, whatever Maserati you end up driving, you will enjoy.

Our Benny has a concrete block grafted onto the bottom of his right foot..........he only smiles when it reaches 7500 revs and he hears the spyder emit a sub-sonic boom............;)

It is a very sporting type GT Rossyl, set up as such and can and should take plenty of punishment.....but if its wet....take care.....390 bhp through the rears is a lot!

Benny,
You are right, the 4200 was revised in 2003 but face-lifted in 2005.

Was a shame about the weather, heavy rain, but that was a **** of a lot of fun. The looks, luxury, sound of the engine, whiplash acceleration. what a car!

I've got my eye on one but will start another thread.
