If it is a big issue in the states with all their infrastructure we don't stand a chance.

That looks similar to the queue for fuel at my local Costco- at least it only takes less 5 minutes once your at the pump though!

My favourite line from the report “Absolute carnage today, 4 Tesla’s waiting to charge”. OMG, not four, that really is carnage.

An exemplar of fine journalism.

If you read it again that was a quote

Looks like 17 or more waiting in this video in Cumbria, it's pretty obvious they're selling EVs faster than they're building chargers, now tesla are opening up the superchargers to other manufacturers it's only going to get worse

Don’t worry, I knew it was a quote the first time round. My point was that they were quoting something because it fitted their narrative, not because it was an actual problem, except maybe a first world one.

I don’t disagree that there is going to be a need for more chargers, but perspective is key, this is one event, happening at a time of year when people do different things from normal. We had days of queues for fuel earlier this year, not because their wasn’t enough, but because everyone suddenly decided they needed more. It was suggested the media were at fault for stoking it, maybe, just maybe, this is the same.

It's another part of the government's cunning plan; limit the number of available terminals then introduce congestion charges for those queuing. Before you know it the cost of charging will escalate too, oh wait......

Carnage, fear and ruined seem to be the media’s go to words. Apparently the Mrs. Brown Christmas special “ruined” many people’s Christmas. Feck me get a life!

Putting this into context;
  • The most popular TESLA is the model 3, which on the chargers at Tebay take c20 mins to charge from 20% - 80% giving another c200 mils range.
  • At Tebay South there are 8 TESLA Rapid chargers giving c150/120kwh - so it can turn round 24 cars per hour.
  • Tebay, along with its sister site at Gloucestershire are voted the best services year on year, have a number of restaurants, Deli, Bakery, and Butchers are are busy through the year (Or holiday cottage is not far from there). With our Dog walk as well as our pit stop we are normally there around an hour before heading to Boots at Penrith to stock up before getting to or leaving the cottage.
  • Given there was 17 cars in the queue, they would have a potential wait of around 40-60 mins to be fully charged and on the way.
However to balance this out, I checked on the Zap Chat and 2 people quoted wait times of between 20 mins and +2 hours on Tuesday, but also with 25 cars waiting, others over the Christmas period reported short waits but on the road again within 20 mins.

Personally I don't think that is too bad given the site serves both the North and South bound traffic (There is a access road for NB traffic)

This is the problem just the same as putting £5 of fuel in at the pump and then doing their weekly shop. Might take 20 mins to charge but they’ll be in Tebay buying artisan bread and bamboo socks after their 3 course meal.

It was the Mail. Normally one would be carnage. Two would be the love child of Elvis.

This made me chuckle

I've just finished converting my van to electric by swapping the diesel engine for the motor from a tumble dryer. It wouldn't start at first, then I realised I hadn't shut the door properly.'
You idiot should have used the Dyson turbo electric motor fitted to their vacumn cleaners a much superior motor
