Stradale issue. Not selecting gear.

700 miles into my ownership and the first issue has appeared. I drove the car to a meeting today in Edinburgh and back home, about 130miles in all. After parking in the drive for half an hour, I went to put it in the garage. Started it up, and tried to select gear and there was no response except a readout "gear unable to select". Turned it off, started it up and it's fine again. When unable to get the gears, I tried 1st and reverse but it just stayed in neutral with no noises or anything, just running but not selecting gear.

Any ideas forum gurus?

I keep reading about problems with a number of newly owned cars and the answer is usually a new battery, if it's sat for months with a low battery then been given a boost by some long drives it could have a dead cell , enough power to start it but not the right voltage for the delicate electronics.

The cheapest thing to try is a new battery or at least get it tested

Mine has gear unavailable pop up every time under hard acceleration in MCS mode and mine is having a new clutch fitted. Battery is an obvious one but also Clutch position sensor is the likely culprit. Until you get it diagnosed on SD machine then you won't know. The number of cars being sold and having faults in the first 1000 miles is scary.

It's only done 5750 miles from new. I'll be pi$$ed off if it needs a sensor although I do have a warranty. Any idea on cost Phil? I'll buy a battery anyway as it will help my piece of mind to know that I have a new one. Also going to put it on the conditioner/charger tonight. I have a high spec Oxford charger which should tell me if the battery is good or bad.

Blu had a similar problem with his MC Shift when they visited us in the Alps. He'd caned it, and the issue went away a few minutes later when it was cooler. Hesitate to ask, but had you been giving it a few beans, Athol mate? :D

How dare you.

Maybe.

:) It's my understanding that MC-Race mode is perfect for a busy traffic 60 miles drive.

It had been cooling the drive for half an hour or so before the issue showed up.

Hope it's ok, turned over and started fine today so I'm not sure the battery could be the problem? The owner of the red 430 parked next you has the full diagnostic laptop to do our cars. You got his number? If you're out tomorrow he might be able to plug you in?

You not got a better picture with my car in it too?

Text me JS's number Lee. I might as well plug in the diagnostics and see if anything is stored. Got the battery charging now. It looks original and the car is 2011 so I'm hoping that it is the issue, rather than the sensor, or worse yet, the clutch.

Seeing him in the morning. Hopefully it's the battery and not anything more complex.

I would definitely suspect the battery especially given that it appear to be the original. Also, I understand Richard had the car for sale for a little while so it was probably not driven much in that time which can lead to battery deterioration, even if it is on a conditioner.
These car do need to be driven - If you don't have time, I will be available to help you out!

Loose use of the word 'meeting' at Fort Kinnaird.

What was the event? Mine is in for a service next month - end of two year extended warranty!
