hmmm my stereo is bust too - it's currently got a parrot mp3 but it's pretty unsightly and a little unreliable ( usually cuts out at the good bit!) what choices do we have with the info thingy on the dash? major firmware upgrade etc possible? dream on....

Put a decent one in to use, and then put the Becker back in to sell.

If someone is *really* going to chose 4.2l supercar over another one on what stereo it has. That is....

C

Chris - the naff Becker was the only reason I chose the car. The wrapper of the gorgeous bodywork and 400 bhp engine was so secondary. Can't believe I paid over 20 grand for the stereo, but worth it.

If you have the Auditorium upgrade you can repace the rather pathetic Amp that powers it without cutting cables. Further along the wiring loom is a standard connection block that can be used to plug and play a decent Amp and at far less than the £700 for the maserati version.

I don't think the Auditorium system is as bad as you make out Peter,It works fine for me...Im not into this bom bom heavy bass, especcialy when your listening to Classic FM...

The Fesser boys just love these old school systems and some Maserati owners have this stuff for free,so it cant be bad!

The original Becker in my 3200 sounds pretty reasonable. I ended up changing it simply because I wanted built in hands free/BT streaming etc. The quality of some of the cheaper units is pretty amazing these days for the price. I can see the charm of keeping an original unit in there though.

had the Parrot 9200 system fitted for the phone and iPod in the 4200 and its pretty good even the little space in front of the ashtray was built for the remote, if I was bothered I might change the speakers but with the iPod having different sound settings its Ok. plus used the satnav over the last week and thats Ok. Splendid.

Peter,
Looks like I have a problem with the amp.No sound out of any of the speakers on RHS. I have had the head unit out and connections are ok . Where is " standard connection block " along the wiring loom? Is it in the cabin front/rear? Also the amp ,is it behind the panel covering the fuel tank in the boot?
Any help/ pointers would be much appreciated.

Make some room on the rear parcel shelf for a pair of these for better sound quality , and the watched by an alien look

They're only $176,000 a pair

The ASK amp is behind the battery and not that easy to get to unless you remove the battery.
to remove the battery you will need to unbolt the safety strap and isolate the battery with the rotating know prior to removing the live and negative leads.

Once the battey is out you will see the amp (in the picture below). It is fixed to a mounting plate from behind so you need to remove it with the plate. This is fixed by three bolts at the bottom. Its tight in there so watch you knuckles.

Once unbolted remove it from the recess, again this is very tight. The Amp is fed by a wiring loom and connected via a multi plug that clips and hinges. Do not force this off - its a b i t c h to take off and best done away from the car. Instead follow the wiring loom along until you feel the where it joins the main loom again by mulit plugs (but smaller standard type). Disconnect these and you can re join the loom that remains in the car by connecting the corresponding male female blocks to complete the circuit.

I cant find anyone in the UK who can fix the ASK amp and I am not paying £800 for a new one.

The connection block is the fried one in my thread "Fiery (literally)..." My amp is now out of the car, apparently still working. I may well change the head unit for e.g. Alpine with DAB and bluetooth (50W x 4, like most modern units, so plenty for me) and keep the Becker and ASK in case, should I sell the car in the future, someone wants to reinstate them.

This is what I've done and gives a better sound. I'll be changing the speekers this summer to a set of alpine

Try these people. At the bottom of the page near their contact number in red it says they can repair ASK amplifiers. It seems they are used in Porsches as well.

https://www.pcmrepairs.co.uk/

Hope that helps.

Isn't too bad, disconnect the bolt at the bottom, put a broad flat something over the "lip" of trim so that it doesn't get damaged, gently lever up the bottom of the battery and slide out.

ETA - oops, Safrane has already said how to do it.
