Steering Question

Hi All,

Now I'm not sure of this is me having forgotten how the car drives or whether something is wrong......

I've found lately or at least its just occurred to me that the steering feels light and a little 'wobbly' at speed. By this I mean, whereas I though the steering response stiffened as you get faster, I'm finding there is a lot of feedback / play when driving along the highway. It's almost like there is no downforce on the front of the car - if that makes sense?

It's not like the car is all over the place, but I have had the occasional jump when I've hit a small change in the road surface.

Any thoughts / ideas appreciated.

Many thanks!

Very strange. New springs in already? That will certainly change the way it handles, but will feel more vs. less planted. Again, very strange. Have the guys at the garage done anything lately that might have changed the way it handles?

Presume you have checked the basics, wheel nut tightness, tyre pressures, tracking etc?

Hi Buster,it sounds like it might be riding up on under-inflated tyres. I had the same just recently after having my wheels fettled and they'd left the tyres too low. Have you had the wheels/tyres off the car recently?

On a side note, I really like the look of Emtee's grey wheels on the Grigio Nuvolari paint. You both have identical cars (minus interior colours), so this is a good proxy of what it would look like on your car. Emtee, what paint did you use and can you give us a sense of cost? Thnx

Loving the new wheels, Miles! One of mine already has a scratch so I've had to send it back. Just another £70 but it still hurts...

Cheers Stu, yes I finally got around to getting them changed and I must say I'm rather chuffed with the results.

Hi All,

Actually JP I still haven't got the springs done yet, still sat in my office along with the DBW. Maybe its just anticipation that's brought this feeling on. Not sure if anything has really changed - apart from driving a Mazda 6 for a couple of weeks! The damage is still yet to be fixed - still trying to find the time to get the police report and insurance stuff done. The car did pass its registration without any problems though.

I'll check the tyres and see if it a reduced pressure otherwise maybe its just me?! This is what I envy about not being in the UK - no other car or contact here in Dubai that I know to compare with. No Ace Cafe - which sounds great!

I do take the point on the wheels - will see about getting it done at the same time as the front end damage, the window regulator, the new dents, exhaust centre section (yours JP), dbw, o - going to get new wing mirror and headlamp gaskets etc etc...

Keep you posted, any other inputs welcomed. Cheers!
