Hi everyone,

Once again it is me still trying to understand what is going on half the time!

Please have a look at the video link. I am having this issue where sometimes when I turn on my 3200 GT prior to ignition all seems fine. However once I turn the ignition, the car just turns off. If I take out the key and put it back in nothing happens no light nothing.

I have to try a range of methods to make the car work. Sometimes it involves. Leaving the car, locking the car. Going back in maybe it will turn on. Leaving the car turning off the alarm by locking the car. Turning off the boot alarm by manually opening or closing the boot.

I am not sure if this is an alarm issue, any one else experienced anything similar? Also really weirdly when the car does not turn off. If I open the car, the the window rises as seen in the pic.

I’d say you’ve got a power issue. It’s seems to be affecting everything. So it could be battery but as it’s intermittent I’d say it’s not.

Take the battery connections off and clean them. (Earth first). If that doesn’t work I’d look at the battery switch in the boot next. Then the fuse box in the passenger footwell and the main battery cable running to the starter. Check the main power relay too.

If that doesn’t work it could be the ignition switch itself. I doubt think it’s the alarm. I think the window is lifting because the ecu has lost power and forgotten where it is.

I would also do a visual check of all the wiring in the engine bay, I had an issue whereby all the power suddenly disappeared when starting up and then it started fine on other occasions. This was diagnosed to an electric wire where the plastic cover had worn away and was intermittently hitting the bodywork.

Even with the issues, I have faced in the few posts/threads I have made. I have to say. Wow what a car! Beats my old 2018 XE :p

If the light is actually going out before you turn the key ? - if so then it is as post above - you have loose battery connections. If you can pull the red or black cables off the battery by hand - that's your problem - Good Luck.

Yep yes it was. Doesn't that only come on when you use the red key?
No. The code light should go out when the normal key is inserted. I have occasionally seen it stay on and still start, they are Italian after all. lol

^^^^ Mine does this sometimes, car still behaves normally and clears after a restart.

Another thing.. Early 3200's were fitted with poorly engineered starter motors, where the glued on field coils failed with the heat and jammed everything up..
On the later starter motors, the coils fixings were modified, another problem solved!

It sounds like you have fixed it and loose battery wiring would definitely cause this so probably problem solved. Another possible cause it the earth straps from the body that run up and are attached to the starter connecting bolts, these can get dropped and unnoticed when changing the starter and without them it can all go a bit pear shaped. Worth a quick check if you are under the car at some point.

Watched your video if my memory serves me right the bleeping sound you get when you try to start up the motor is letting you know you have a power issue ie battery low bad electical contact etc etc this winter it has happened to me twice i just put the battery on charge no more bleeping and a fully charged battery my problem was simple but i think you should check and clean your electrical contacts and keep the battery charged uk winter knocks the **** out of your battery
