I know @Andyk mentioned this before, but ICBA to find the thead.

This series is brilliant on many levels, not least Tucci's almost total lack of pretension.

Completely besotted with it. Anyone recall "Traveller's France"? ;)

Nah. jean Reno is coolest. Stanely is about number 7, but bloody ****, I wish I had his style!

Really loving it. US in 2023 then we start Europe. Looks like HK and China are off the menu for a wile!

Jean Reno…Surely you have to have some Itialian in your blood to take that crown and he is French actor of Andalusian Spanish origin so it is a no from me.

By the way before I offend Phil and the French nation…..I love France and it’s people and just don’t think the word cool and French go together (Well not for males anyway). It is the same as putting British and cool together …It just isn’t working for me.

(See how I balanced that up C)

I happened to see half of one of these and was enchanted. It seemed to me to work really well having an English-speaking celeb who is also able to also use another language to bridge the gap for us - better than the ones where they have to work hard to completely edit out the translator. Now let’s see more of the same sort of thing, with Ben Affleck in Spain, Shakira in Portugal, Leo (Wilhelm) DiCaprio in Germany, Jodie Foster in France and Mila Kunis in Ukraine (God willing).

BUT a couple of people bitched to me that they think it is horribly fake, with Tucci bullshìtting us that he can speak Italian, and a dozen translators behind the scenes. Which just seems like nasty negativity to me.

He lived in Italy for a year when he was younger, and has Italian parents so the chances are that he does speak it pretty well..

Also a fan and loved this series. Waiting keenly for Season 2 which I understand has been delayed. As a bonus for us, a beautiful Gran Turismo was featured in episode 3!

I think I mentioned this on the TV thread, but if you enjoyed this series, you might like Anthony Bourdain’s Unknown Parts - on Netflix and, I think, Amazon (but with ads).

Having learnt some Italian, he’s definitely speaking it without prompting. I did spot that the subtitles in English aren’t always correct. I think you get a bit of creative licence in the translation.
