I know there are various car clubs around , that for an annual nominal sum will give you an allotted time with various cars throughout the year , have done a quick search none have any classic Maserati's , anyone on here ever been a member of such a club, and what are your thoughts to how it could work.

If we could get say 10 people to throw in £5k into a joint owned pot, and buy a decent fully restored classic , divide the usage up fairly , and put in place a regular maintenance programme, would any one be interested , investment wise i think it would be reasonably sound hence fulfilling a dream. Whilst retaining the oppurtunity to sell after an agreed time possibly to buy another model so as to experience the delights of the Maserati Marque.

They do similar schemes for Boat ownership and they seem to work with people buying in and then selling their share so i think it could be done , thoughts :feedback:

Might be interested in that, what sort of car are you thinking?

It will come to a question of trust, scratches appearing with nobody claiming responsibility and then there is the mileage and maintenance. If it was between trusted people like you Loz, then I think I would be willing to for a higher stake, and less owners, quite happy to go £10k with 4 others on this:

Bora - the first entry.

Could be very interesting...
Any thoughts on how the vehicle would be owned and insured?

As i think they do with Boat ownership , the Car would remain the property of the (classic car club ) if you like, of which each member has an equal share ,or part there of ,

In the event one member wants to sell or resell his share, the share must first be offered to the existing members, and or offered on the open market .

Insurance can obviously be obtained , as there are existing car clubs out there

As with shared boat ownership , each new member must be vetted and all share owners in agreement with the acceptance of the new member

I think it could work with like minded people , be a nice way to enjoy ownership of a true thoroughbred classic without the solo expense of it all

Just a thought whilst being stuck in on would could of been a glorious weekend but as always rained in with a two massers on the drive raring to go

Liking the idea more and more...

How about calling it 'TridentClub'

Definately food for more thought , and yeah i like that name Enzo , perhaps something to mull over at Bristol , i'll do a little more research into how the clubs are run and insurances etc

aahh ... the one in the thread.

yes - its nice.

and Loz - you said you know the car.

I would say this though - pause for thought fellas - many a friendship ruined by this sort of arrangement.

can work of course but the more involved the more potential for problems even with every good intention.

mixing friendship and business doesnt always work.

you would have to have everything set out in advance - does majority rule, unanimous decisions?

would need careful consideration IMHO

Depends on the car and the way it would work. Remember classic Maserati as with any classic supercar, is not a modern Maserati, and the running costs could be enormous

A clear and fair way might be to have it looked after/possibly stored and or serviced at Bill Mcgraths in the interim periods where its not used , I appreciate that running costs wont necessarily be cheap , masser ownership rarely is , but then it wont be clocking up 20K miles a year so normal servicing should prevail , and a nominal amount in the kitty should allow for the odd hic up here and there, not insurmountable problems , after all most on here are a little hands on for the small things , but keeping its history and provenance A1 must be primarily at the forefront of any decisions after all its a capital investment that would hopefully not depreciate too much, if it were done right could even show a return
