Wasn't it somewhere on this thread you posted about a stereo you hadn't used for years :D

Probably the best thing you've bought is the streamer, so much new music to discover
I was just thinking that. An expensive Linn streamer from memory. Probably did not need the Naim after all :)

I have a turntable I’ve not used for many years. It’s a Michell that I bought when I was still at school in my late teens, having saved up for ages. I’ll not part with it, and take pleasure from the ownership of it without having to use it - a bit like having a painting you like hanging in a room you rarely enter.

Looking forward to the streamer arriving. In that room I’m ready to move on from Sonos, Spotify, and small in-ceiling speakers.

No. This’ll be my first proper streamer. Looking forward to it.

But I do have some Linn power amps I no longer use. Sold one on Ebay a few weeks ago, with another two I’ll list there shortly. (An LK140 and an LK85, just in case anyone here wants either/both.)

There's almost too much new music to discover. I stopped collecting new vinyl releases because there's simply so much out there and my tastes have broadened to more facets of electronic music than the bulk of my collection. Add in limited pressing an £11-12 per 12in with often just one tune a side... nah.
Getting time to listen is another problem.
At the moment I stumble on a new artist every fortnight, listen to them religiously, then move on to the next one. This fortnight it's Hodge

I'm still a CD guy, if I find an artist I really like I buy their CDs as they get paid such a pittance from the streaming services

I know you can buy lossless downloads but again I wonder how much the artist sees of that and quite often they're no cheaper

With the purchase of CD hopefully at least someone is getting work out of production, transportation, wholesale & retail rather than 'click' £10 into the record companies bank account

I will always buy stuff in my collection CD or vinyl I like having something tangible. CDs are easy to copy onto a NAS for streaming, vinyl less so although a lot of new vinyl come with free digital downloads and besides the joy of vinyl is the whole experience of putting it on.

Another day, another purchase.

I decided the obvious weak link in my "new" system is my old phono-stage. This is a Pro-Ject SE. Something that is perfectly good at its price point, but modest in the overall scheme of things.

So, given that Graham Fowler at Trichord built my amps, it seemed only sensible to have him provide the phono-stage. After a quick exchange of emails, he is now building me one. And what is quite fun is that this Dino is the first in his new design case, as demo'd at the Bristol Show last weekend.

I suspect I may have caught a dose of hi-fi upgradeitis!

And obviously, with a better phono-stage, I'll now benefit from a better cartridge...

Hence have just ordered an Audio-Technica VM750SH, which has great reviews at its price.

Where will this slippy slope end I wonder?!

When you replace all your scratchy warped vinyl with digital downloads.... :)

Hmm...quite probably!

My records were all okay when I put them up in the loft in the mid 1990's. Well, as far as I recall. Fingers crossed they are still there and haven't been eaten by mice.

But I suspect that having to buy new vinyl will all be part of the "fun" of this new hobby.

I asked my mate who works at AMS Neve in Burnley and he asked a couple of Neve analogue originals, Robin Porter and John Turner who he works with. They didn't recognise anyone but thought it could be from the new digital division. I don't know if they kept the analogue and digital divisions separate. Digital was obviously never going to catch on.

John thought the guy at the back in the middle might be Rob Frayling-Cork. Some of the faces are familiar to me, probably because I was interviewed for a job for the digital automation position.
That's me in the middle at the back. None of us there were ex-Neve but as the company grew there was a few ex-Neve, like Geoff Watts and Clive Angel joined us. The sad thing about it Doodlebug is quite a few have now passed away, Derek Cook at the front who worked for Pye and the chap Jim on the right have been dead some time now. Time waits for no one.

Tuning your room with bass traps and reflection dampeners
Getting a separate isolated electrical supply to your hifi
magnetic isolation feet

Oh the fun still to be had!

You need a decent record cleaner to get all those years of dust and static off them, there are plenty around and it is really therapeutic realising all those old friends from their sleeves and reliving so many memories even before a needle gets close to any of them.

The way Ewan is spending money I've got a picture in my head of a full time employee now

Fair do's though, so many people go through life terrified of spending money then croak with it in the bank

Do what pleases you while you can
