Should have put the winter tyres on?

Just got the car back from 2 weeks in the garage on Monday. Looking forward to a quick blast and now this, it hasn't moved since!

I’m sure it’ll be fine - a bit of opposite lock steering / sliding is always fun!...

They work great, just drove back 75 miles from Edinburgh this morning in the Alfa on winters. Nice to get a dual carriageway all to myself!

Not sure that winter tyres are going to help you there!

Winter tyres would get out of that no probs.

I had a loaner F Pace yesterday. 4WD and got going ok but P Zero tyres - practically understoppable. Reminds you that 4WD needs winters or all seasons tyres in these conditions. My Maser on it's Sotto Zeros would have been better.

Well I have just come over Dartmoor winter tires on the van, it is blowing a blizzard lots of stranded cars and lorys a few in the hedge
but I fear it will all be gone midday tomorrow replaced with rain, short-lived but great fun.

100% agree that winters on 2wd front or rear is tons better than a 4x4 on summers.

We have all weather jobbies on both the XC90 & Freelander2 all year round & they work well all year round in all conditions. Good in the snow at the moment.

I had a TT Quattro that was utterly cr4p in the snow on summers. All that happens is all 4 wheels spin instead of 2!

It isn't rocket science & really makes sense. As normal the UK govt has no idea & too slow to introduce anything to stop this sh1t country grinding to a halt when a couple of inches of snow drops!

That & the lazy useless bone idle people that use it as an excuse to either not go to work at all or work at a reduced capacity.

Rant over.

No winters this year but its something I will sort for next. I plan on picking up a set of 19" wheels and getting winters on them so I can just swap them when I need to.

I used to do exactly that before we had the 2 4x4 with all weathers on. We had a VW Touran & an SL both a spare set of 2nd hand alloys with part worn winters I originally bought cheap to get us started.

Every year I would swap them and got it down to 15 mins a corner if I worked fast or 20 mins taking my time. Easy to store 2 stacks in the shed as well.

Even my wife noticed the dramatic difference they made to the Touran. Made the SL60 very usable in the snow even with over 400 horses.

Even though I have winters on the GranTurismo, I'll be taking the Rangie (wearing all-weather "Grabbers") to work today.

Yes, feeling very smug that I put the winters on about 3 weeks ago. Timed it perfectly I think. However, not been out in them yet as too many others around without them on. Noticed a massive difference even without the snow at freezing temperatures in the dry they feel very sure footed. Took the XC90 today - this car is phenomenal in the snow, I run Cooper A/T Discoverers on it all year round. Take care out there even 4x4 can't defy the laws of physics

P Zero Sottos on my E 63 AMG daily, fitted back in December, first time using winters, should have done it years ago. As soon as temperatures drop summer P Zeros are utterly useless. Winters will be staying on until temperatures warm up, about June at this rate.

It’s all about braking and the first time I bought winters I could not believe how brilliant they were at stopping in the snow. AWD cars will get going on summer tyres in the snow but stopping them is another matter.
