Servicing and Maserati warranty - a question

Coming up for a service (first in my ownership) on my QP so looking around for prices. The car has extended Maserati warranty. A well known independent has advised me that the warranty is still valid if they do it, providing all parts are receipted Maserati genuine. On the other hand, I have checked the Maserati warranty document and it clearly states that "(4a) The Warranty is voided if the vehicle is not subjected to the Schedule Services, specified by Maserati and listed in this booklet, by the Official Dealer Networkâ€.

Anyone got any experience or further information?

Hi Norman, if its there in B/W...hard to contest. But if you use the site run by Andrea, am sure you can get a service price not far from a good indie.......give it a try

The warrany issue is an intersting one.

Last I heard, if its a standard manaufacturers warranty, they can not invalidate it based on who has serviced the car (the EU got involved with this). HOWEVER, I understand that if its an extended warranty, they can stipulate what they like!

I would ask an Indi for a price, then get a quote of the Main Dealer. Depends what your having done, but you might find the price difference isnt as large as you thought.

I can recommend Shiltech in Loughboro, regards wording, as long at it's serviced in accordance with the schedule inthe service book, I'm struggling to see the objection. On the other hand if having the car serviced at a Maser dealership is a condition of the extended warranty, then going outside of the network is a breach of the contract term that the extended warranty was offered under.decisions...in my experience Though QPs do not go wrong..:)

Ok this might be a bit 'left field' but what about the 'Good Garage Scheme' http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/

On their front page, it clearly states
If your vehicle is under warranty, it can still be serviced by a Good Garage Scheme member without invalidating the warranty conditions. For more information on Block Exemption, go to our Car Service page.

and on the car service page it states

Do I need to take my car to a main dealer for its service?
European Commission rules on car block exemption came into full effect in October 2003. This new ruling allows independent garages the same access to technical information on your car from the manufacturer, and more importantly, it means you do not need to go back to a franchise dealer to retain warranty cover
.

So, by that, Maserati cannot impose you to have their car serviced by a Maserati Dealer alone. I am not suggesting you get your oil changed by Halfords/Kwik fit grease monkey but if the garage is a member, you think he's competent and you carry out the service as per Maserati schedules and procedures then what's the problem?

It's illegal and it's protectionism. The EU ruled on it so your thoughts are correct Norman. Provided the work is carried out completely and verifiably in accordance with the manufacturers requirements with genuine parts, then the warranty stands valid. If you're worried, get your indi to put it in writing quoting the relevant ruling(s)

Concur with Dave regarding Shiltech. They're my indi' and as well as being qualified to carry out warranty work, Geoff is also able to work on, or even restore to Ferrari Classiche status. If Tom Hartley trusts him..........

To complete the story: (1) re SupercarHub for quotes: Julian of Supercarhub has responded to my feedback (which was poor response and a couple of other issues) apologising and noting that "Moving ahead, in 2 weeks we will be applying a major upgrade to the site which addresses your feedback (already planned), but like all developments, they typically take longer than anticipated."
(2) based on feedback from the forum (thanks) I am opting for the service with a well known independent rather than main dealer.
So, helpful responses all round.

Nice to have opotions Norman and good that you are happy going with a well established indie.......

Plus always good to get a reasoned and timely response from any service/sponsor on the forum

Norman, as already stated, if an indie does the work and stipulates on the invoice all the maserati parts and fluids used, then legally you should not have a problem with your warranty.

I suspect this is now irrelevant to the OP as work will have been carried out, BUT my understanding is that there is a distinction made between a warranty that comes with the car and an extended warranty. The Block Exemption covers the former but not the latter as it is one of the terms of the extended warranty and it is entirely up to the customer whether they take it out or not. On that basis I would be very wary of going outside the dealer network. Thats said, I have got quotes for servicing from an official dealer that are so close to an independant that it was worth keeping the dealer stamp in the book. Supercarhub helps greatly in that regard.

Personally my GranTurismo has been so great so far (only 13 months mind!) that I am wondering about not bothering extending the warranty after three years. Plenty of time to decide but previously I would not have thought this possible!

Bob,
Glad to hear that mate, reliability does seem to have improved as the years have gone by.
Cheers
