Service History

Though my car has been serviced each year it has few invoices, just the ones from the previous owner who had only had the car since 11/2011. I confirmed the stamps in the book with the dealers prior to buying. However, my request of a copy of the invoices has fallen on deaf ears.

Why are dealers so reluctant to part with this information? I said they could omit the owners details at the time but I was still ignored. TBH Porsche were the same with my previous car.

Data protection doesn't allow them to. They can give you the dates of the services and that's it. Porsche have always been anal about it but Maserati have tightened up their dealerships over the last year or so.

I suppose you could try contacting the previous owner(s) and explain your reasons for wanting the history. They could then either write a letter of authority for you, or apply for the history on your behalf.

I tried that...even supplied self addressed stamped envelopes...no responds. Got mine by visiting the main dealer and had some minor work done and they were only too pleased to give me copies then!

Might have to admit defeat here. I may write to the previous owners if I can find their details

I tried all that for our AC, got nowhere apart from the original Maserati Dealer who provided the dates and mileage of the services they carried out, no copy invoices though.

I know that BMW give you a print out of all the work carried out on the car within the dealer network..Doesn't give owners names just when work done, by which dealer and what that work was.....Don't see a roblem with that..Shame others will not do it...

I've had this problem since buying my 4200 from a finance repossession. I knew when I bought it that it had very little history and no service book, but thought I'd be able to track it down, but to no avail.Main dealers flatly refused and informed me that the computer records had all changed (?) so I think I'll just have to live with it. Car's great though!!!

Pity Chris...am assuming you got it for a song?!...:)

Always good to have all this stuff when the time comes to sell on...people are easily put off unless very cheap

Yes, got the car at agreat price, however, it needed a little 'fettling', wheels refurbed, new tyres ,carpets, geometry set up etc, however I'm really happy with it. After the Alfa it seemed like a natural progression and I love it.

I'd take a two pronged approach here....

First, as I did with my M3, I'd go to the dealer and see if you get to speak to a 'normal' person. Someone who verified the history and gave me a print out of all the work the car had done. No mention of owners, just when and where and how much it costs.

Secondly, I would write to the previous owner. I did this with my Cooper S and got much more than I had hoped for! The previous owner wrote me a lovely letter, telling me all about her "Little Billy Whizz", along with a raft of invoices. All gratfully recieved.

I suspect I was luck on the Mini though. I knew it had history, just lucky the previous owner was so nice.

If you experience difficulty then visit the dealer personally with the car , all to often traders/showrooms often ask for the same info on cars they have taken in with no recompense to the servicing dealer , offer to make a donation either to them or a charity of their choice , you'll be surprised how greasing the wheels works in your favour , just let them know you are happy to have copies with the previous owners details tippexed out

Surely Maserati themselves have a central system covering a cars history. I can usually take a car in to any dealer and they can pull up the history by looking up the car on the brand server. Have you tried this with Maserati themselves direct?

Not the case with Maserati Rob least with the coupes up to the gransport , all Maserati GB can tell you is what updates and spec the car has had done , whether there is change a foot for the Turismo ive not heard of it yet

That's a bit shortsighted, it would enable any Maserati garage anywhere to know the car history, at least for the first year, or two??

Cheers
