Send a car key via UPS and battery removal

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the car key system on the 4200 CC.
I have to send the car key via UPS to my dad. Problem is: UPS doesn't agree for me to leave the little batteries in the key, I have to take them out. Stupid rule, I know, but they won't change their minds unless I get some kind of complicance certificate of the battery (which I obviously can't get).

Anyway, I was wondering what removing the battery of the key for 1-2 weeks might imply?
Will it mess up the anti theft code system?
Will I have to bring the key to Maserati for them to reprogram it?
Or is is just a no brainer process, put a new battery and move on?

Sorry if the question is stupid, I really want to make sure I won't mess up anything.
Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who knows

Shouldn't be a problem.
You might need to double tap the unlock button to re-synch it but I doubt it.

Here's a thought: Lie to UPS?

Impossible, they scan everything. And if they detect it it will be blocked at the customs which will be a nightmare to get straight....
I know it sounds insane but we already had that kind of problem in my company with a simple remote control.

Ah ok, thanks a lot for your message @FIFTY.
Thanks to you I googled this little transponder chip on google and got a better understanding on how those anti theft devices are supposed to work in our cars. So apparently those things are responsible for the engine start and they work wirelessly, so having a battery inside the key isn't necessary at all.

So I guess I can remove the battery in the key and it shouldn't cause any issue.

I do not think you will have to remove the battery from the key. I think you will just need to add a label onto the package.
Have a read here: https://www.ups.com/assets/resources/media/en_GB/pack_ship_batteries.pdf

Thanks, but it's impossible to discuss with those guys, even if you're might be right. In China they just do whatever they want and don't bother at all wether what the rule is actually saying. They said it need a certificate of comformity for the battery and there is zero chance they'll change their minds about that, ever. I won't even try to argue with them, it's a lost cause XD
But thanks anyways !

I had similar issue trying to send something via UPS, using TNT I just sent a small electric sit-in car with battery over the pond with no restrictions - I just stated what the item was and the battery was also in the box
as the others said you should be OK removing the battery. my second key had a dead battery, not sure how long it was dead, replace battery, pressed button I think twice and was ok.

If there is an issue it'll be with the central locking. Starting will not be impacted
