I think you are spot on Phil........Both the Ghibli and QP are appealing to a different audience and although they are great cars I am sure your 4200 is the one for that Sunday morning blast.......

Agree.
Am i wrong stating that the Granturismo is the last of a range real exotic Masers?

Hope the Alfieri and anounced new Granturismo will take up from there again.

Still, the Gibli III is a lot more tempting than the bunch of german rivals.

You are not wrong, I've always wanted to sample a GT and am glad I am now the owner of one. It is the Last real Maserati as the news ones whilst good have just become a little to Eurobox and generic. Great as an everyday alternative to say the German luxury cars but not special enough when it comes to that once a week blast which will make you grin like a loon.

At the moment you are correct....Not that the latest cars aren't good ... Just different......MAF has a GS for fun and a Ghibli for everyday....Sort of says it all really.

You really have to look at all of this in the context of the price points the cars are sold at. The list prices of most Ghiblis' sold will be c£55k whereas for the GranTurismo it is £40-45k higher so you can't compare really. Whether the exotic days are gone will be revealed when we see the price/quality/performance of the new GranTurismo/Alfieri car or cars (might be two cars, might be one car trying to do both jobs).

The Ghibli is a fine car in it's space but the one car that does not sit well is the QP. Drive both saloons and you will struggle to see much difference other than the cost which is different by c£20k for reasons which are not overly apparent.

Agreed with all the points here. If I was going for a Sunday blast (which I will be a little later) I wouldn't grab the Ghibli keys as I don't own it for that purpose. It would still be a fun drive, it's a cracking car and can hold its own surprisingly well in company, but the GS also wouldn't have taken my family to a restaurant earlier this week in comfort, with easy entry/exit from the car for everyone. I'm lucky to have different cars for different uses. New project arriving later this week which will give me something to play around with and will be more track-focused.

Must say, I am liking the ghibli more and more.
