Scratched front windows

My front drivers window in particular is becoming very scratched from the up and down motion of it. My previous Ghibli did the same. I have tried cleaning the seal that sits 1cm or so inside. It feels very hard and unforgiving. I wonder if it perishes with time?
Has anyone else got this phenomenon and has anyone managed to stop it happening?
Thanks

Assume you refer to the side window?

The window scrapers fill with dirt and if not cleaned out end up like sandpaper. Only way to lessen the damage is to keep the car and windows clean... particularly after sand is blown up from the Sahara

Yes I've tried to keep them clean. The material they are made of feels abrasive in itself

I've splashed out on some seal preserver - that may help, but hopefully it will stop the rattle (which is not heard when the window is fully down)

Ive cleaned (or tried to ) again the seal just inside the door. I am thinking of replacing it as it feels rough and hard to touch.

I am guessing its No2 on this diagram, does anyone know if thats correct?

That's not at all clear as part 20 is also called the scraper gasket. I guess that 20 is on the outside and 2 is on the inside?

From what I can see yes 20 looks like the outer one. There are several versions of 20 depending on trim and up to about £450

Crazy bloody price. I know exactly what you mean about how harsh they feel. Mine sounds like sandpaper.

You could polish the glass and the put a ceramic coating on it. It wont 100% stop the scratches occuring but it will act as a sacrificial layer to protect the glass and help keep the glass clean to reduce material likely to scratch. Its not expensive and easy to apply also means that just rain will push dirt off the side windows. Gtechniq G1 is about £15 will last about 12 months on the side windows and 1 bottle should do just the side windows a couple of times from 1 bottle. Just check the expiry date on the bottle and store in a cool area away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

You could also try spraying the rubber trim seal with gummy pfledge which is a seal lubricant acts like a leather feed on rubber and improves how flexible the seal is.

Have considered the polish (on my windscreen as well). Did it on the 4200 with good results, but messy AF and the scratches on the side window are really quite deep (deep enough you can feel them)

Cerium oxide / jewellers rouge on a polishing wheel would help reduce them. Depends how brave you are. You can use sandpaper on a drill like you can doing car headlights but be prepared it will look really bad until you start doing the final polish.

Exactly what I used previously. It goes *everywhere*!

obviously a design fault probably as simple as using the wrong materials but as ever you will need to wait for someone else to find a part solution to this since history suggests all maserati will do is shrug their shoulders and bite their thumb.........

What helped me was cleaning out any grit in the window track and then spraying a bit of silicone lubricant on the rubber seal-keeps it soft and the glass slides without scratching.
