As all are saying a very sad loss and commiserations to his family - I went to collect a towing eye from him a couple of years ago and had a guided from Penny around the aladins cave as well as an entertaining chat.

Very sad news and condolences to all. I never had the pleasure, but have spoken with him on a few occasions for parts and advice. Always came across as a really nice chap with time to chat!

RIP David; and thank you for all your great advice.

Copy of email from Penny.

Hello.

It's Penny Boon here. You're receiving this message because of your email acquaintance with David Askew, either as a friend or a supplier of Maserati car parts.

It's with great sadness that I share the news of David's passing, which occurred peacefully at home on December 6th. David's funeral will be held at Countesthorpe Crematorium on December 28th at 2pm. If you are interested in attending, please reply directly to this email.

I've had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with a number of you previously. It is my intention to continue David's legacy and supply parts to Maserati enthusiasts worldwide. In the short term, my focus will be spending time with friends & family. Please can I ask that you submit any parts enquiries by email over the Christmas and New Year break - I will work through these requests from January 2nd onwards.

Thank you for reading this, and I'm sorry if this news has come as a shock to you.

Kind regards,

Penny

Same as Ewan I also got my first Ghibli from David in around 1999, a LHD 2.0 car from Italy that he drove back. I just checked my mails and he said he bought it from a chap on the outskirts of Torino. He told me since he had brought a few back like that. I had it as a daily for 5 or so years and sold it for a QP. The second it was gone I regretted it. Fortunately I found it and bought it back around 5 years ago. Its never leaving again. I have bought quite a lot from David over the years as I've always had a Maser on the drive. A super bloke and a pleasure to deal with and a real loss to us all RIP David.
Here it is with my other one.

Very sad news - more so at this time of year. My car has David to thank for keeping it on the road with some of the parts he supplied. RIP

The email just arrived from Penny so took a moment to reflect on my own meeting with David.
He was no longer in the best of health but stiil took time to show off the Aladdin's cave of delights. He seemed genuinely happy to watch me scramble around like a kid in a sweet shop, wondering if i might be able to use some arcane trident printed package. Not all all a pushy salesman, I left only with parts that were certain to fit my car. Last haul was Levante 19" wheels and full set of bolts for M139 QP. I do still think of David whenever wheel come off my car or when I trip over the stack of Levante wheels evicted to fit the new set.

Anyone fancy a Trident trip to Leicestershire?

I never met David but spoke to him several times over the phone when I needed parts and advice for my Biturbo, nothing was too much trouble for him and he always came back with an answer. He was good friends with my car's previous owner too, which cemented my decision to buy it.

RIP David.

Very sad news indeed, been to his place and met him a couple of times for help with the 3200, you couldn't meet a more knowledgeable, accomodating, and above all fair guy to deal with regarding the brand, he was a true fanatic and the fold will miss him greatly.
