Just been to renew, and it said £405 on the docket, went in to the post office and was informed its gone up to £435.

Now base upon I hit a pot hole and split a front tyre, and I had to replace 2 and the council refused to accept liability, only to find that those tyres are now bald on the inner edges due to the tracking being knocked out by further pot holes I am feeling very hard done by.

Mine is a 2006/May and I know Loz's it 2006/Feb and he pays half what I do, the tax system in this country is just such a mess, as we all know that the money we pay does not go into the roads, and such I will continue to have my tyres ruined.

See I don't understand the car tax...isn't it based on CO2....So a Maserati owner will do 4000 miles a year in his car a pay £400 a year and someone in a 1.8l Ford Focus does 25000 miles a year and pays £190 a year....who the feck is polluting more.

Saying that my 4.9L M5 is £190 and what TVR T350twas £190 to......its all bloody mad.

It's naive to think that road tax is based on nothing more than money grabbing. Cows emit more CO2 than our cars, and as for air travel emissions, don't get me started!
Those of us who have larger engines in older stuff do at least benefit to some extent. The 2006 cut off date was 23rd March when the £400+ rate was applied. That forced me to sell a 3.2 Brera at the time.
The only chancellor to have helped the car enthusiast was Ken Clarke when he allowed classics to be tax free on the rolling 25 year old rule and even that was modified to stop the rolling bit.
I had a ride in Grancabrio the other day - only £100k and a so-called showroom tax of £950! I must stress it was ONLY a ride.

Mine is an 05 so is 'cheap' car tax but my wife's TT which only does 4k pa is £400+. Makes no sense especially when they backdated the changes a year when they were announced in 2007.

Hum, with labour leaving government this week, and surely the Torries getting in, there is still little or no chance or them reducing it.

Yup, as ever the soft touchs get picked out and shafted.....all I can see is the average motorist being squeezed dry, made to pay an ever increasing proportion of government take from the masses.....simply unfair and abusing the ordinary tax payer.

Hey Guys give the Tories a chance , providing they get in , i think we'll see a few of the old guard come to the fore , mark my words , they will be very tough on immigration , and whilst doing favours for big business ,they will be opening loop holes for the self employed and small business, those that get off their asses and want to create will be able to do so more freely , those in local government and long term sit back on your *** jobs beware , the end is nigh were coming for you and now you'll have to start performing or your out and thats how it should be , taxation will be relatively the same or a bit heavier somewhere , but providing you have some get up and go you be able to make some extra dosh somewhere to offset the taxation Now that my party political on behalf of the Tory Party, Looking back over 35 years best years of my earning potential were under the tories , and at the end of their prospective reigns NO price to pay , under labour there has always been a price to pay after they got us into the poo every single time

Loz, I do look forward to the blues back in power, but if a tax is in place they will never reduce it. Just harp on about how it was a Labour taxation.

They are all as bad a one another, but I am a blue!

not at all political myself, I find it all a sham and avoid the media at all costs - but here's hoping for at least an armastice on the war on speed (aka war on driving / war on enjoying driving / war on modern day freedom). I fear it's a vain hope! I know, I'm going to live on the Isle of Man....
